Plus we all know the Phil Kessel body is the best for hockey, not a triathlon winner’s.

I actually feel bad for the guy lol
But I'm glad he's in good spirits down there. Might be no player who needs time away more than him. Maybe he can use this time to reset

Hockey players have such weird physiques. Some are rail thin, others have cartoonishly huge quads, some are totally jacked and some don't look like athletes at all.
I'm convinced the ability to play hockey has little to no correlation with how someone looks... even the aforementioned Phil Kessel looked like an average Joe but can apparently deadlift 500 pounds.

And some look like your homebody, video gaming nephew and live off of skittles
Guys that go pro probably have an unusual amount of natural strength and/or speed .. They're a 1 percentile with specific natural abilities that help them excel at the game of hockey
Or in Phil's case, possess the same supernatural strength that allows pregnant women to lift cars

Who else is expecting Markstrom to get the net on Monday despite the fact they need to go with Vladdy down the stretch?

It is crazy how these days men who do steroids are that standard at which we judge physique. Guys like Chris Hemsworth look the way they do with their shirt off because they do steroids, and then dehydrate themselves with diuretics before doing anything shirtless.

They also shoot the shirtless scenes first because they're going to lose that definition so quickly during the film shoot.
Edit:
Also worth mentioning that it hasn't always been this way, look at someone like Sean Connery who was a body builder before acting.

I find the body composition of hockey players compared to say soccer players interesting. At a given height if elite soccer players are say 170 lb, 10% BF, the equivalent hockey player is something like 200 lb. 18% BF
If one was to google Alphonso Davies muscles for example I think that would be societies general idea of an athletes build but given how hockey is more physical and shift based I wonder if the flames players would even be better losing say 10 lb of fat

Having defined abs doesn't make you a better athlete lol.
Getting abs is hard enough, maintaining them is another thing.
Are we going to say offensive lineman are not top tier athletes?

Not to mention, these guys arent your average joes either.
I'm far from an expert, but my understanding is that any physical changes a player undergoes essentially has to happen in the off-season, be it gaining muscle or losing weight or whatever the desired change may be, because their bodies go through so much during the season that its essentially just maintenance of whatever shape they started in.
Hence the importance of the pre-season fitness levels and training camp.
