This is why a lot of us were wanting to trade one of our d for a speedy skilled forward in the off season. I don't see how this is surprising with the players we have.

Of course, Kylington situation probably blocked a trade, but Barzal or Necas would be a huge improvement in getting the puck across the blueline. These guys may have never been available, but we need someone that plays a similar game.

At this point none of the Flames dmen are proving to be high end PP dmen and our top skilled forwards on average are a bit slow.

Andersson can't successfully QB a powerplay unit

too many passes, poor shot placement

try someone else already

there could be a winning combination in the room and we aren't even exploring that

I just think there is a lot of criticism of player when the mix is just now there.

Our top 5 offensive forwards are:

Huberdeau
Lindholm
Toffolli
Mangiapane
Kadri

Kadri is the only guy that seems comfortable carrying the puck into the zone and in transition. It's not his strength he is just the best by default, and he is nowhere near guys like McDavid, Mackinnon, Marner, Hughes, Kucherov/Point. Any non-rebuilding team has someone better than the Flames when it comes to skating with the puck with high end skill.

Dube, Coleman and Backlund probably are the fastest players with the puck, but they just aren't skilled enough to make plays.
