Montreal placed Jonathan Drouin on LTIR last season for an Leave of Absence (so he could be eligible)

Flames don't need the cap space, unlike Vegas as an example who have many players on LTIR which has allowed them the ability to be cap compliant

Exactly - to my knowledge, the only reason that he hasn't been on LTIR to date, is that it has not been advantageous to put him there. I have never heard any confirmation that he does not qualify.

The Wings have several players coming back from injury, but I believe they still had a couple waiver exempt guys on the roster, so this doesn't seem to be something they 'had' to do. So I would side with the folks that think there must be more to the stint in the assistance program.

This is the reddest of flags. If the Wings thought they could get something in return for him they would

Yeah, I don't like the sound of this either. You don't just waive a player that talented and young unless something has happened, and what that something is could be anything, I won't even begin to guess. A GM would need to do some serious asking around to know what exactly is going on before putting in a claim.

I don't think the Flames should be in on this. We don't have the cap space, this year or next, besides he has too many red flags:
1. In his last 2 playoff series he has 0 points, and he's -8 in 15 games.
2. He only played 28 NHL games over the last 2 seasons.
3. His numbers during the conditioning stint are far from impressive.
4. I'm not sure he's done dealing with whatever was significant enough to get into the player assistance program 2 games into the season. Are 2.5 months enough to deal with a significant issue?

You'll have to explain to me the Capology to make that work.

The explanation of roster squeeze with returning players does not paint the picture fully.

The Wings are carrying 3 goalies, they can send 1 down if they wanted to.

The Wings have 4 forwards that are waiver exempt that they could send down.

Instead they are choosing to risk exposing Vrana on waivers.

So yeah, even though they may have Bertuzzi and Fabbri coming back, they didn't need to do the Vrana move to activate them.

Chicago should take him. Play him with Kane, let him put up tons of points, get another first. They can retain salary too so that's. This is just free assets for a team.

Evander Kanes wrist injury won’t heal till round 1, move PullanRV with a 3rd for bag of pucks

And for 2023-24 they just put Campbell on LTIR?

Even if they could find a way to fit him in for this season, he's signed for another one.

Probably offload Yamamoto at the draft for something.

Have other players doming off, including Lucic retention, it would work if they wished to do so.

Anyone growing up in the 90's would recall: "There's always Vrana's"
