Flames first 20 games or so are absolutely ridiculous when it comes to strength of schedule

Then it's the softest in the league...standings at Thanksgiving shouldn't be a huge worry IMO

The way I see it, a team's first half is rarely an indicator of a team's quality. 2nd half records are usually a better indicator. Case in point, the Flames were 18-12-6 at one point but went on to win the division.

Yes, it's not how you start, it's how you finish

Just a reminder that this is not a national game, it is a regional game. Viewers outside of the Flames region can only get this on Centre Ice.

I am not sure how applicable that saying is anymore though. At least there seem to be teams that buck that trend more often. The most immediate example the comes to mind is the St.Louis Blues the year they won the cup where they were putrid all the way until January and just turned course 180 degrees.

There is a pretty strong correlation that being in a playoff position at that arbitrary milestone matters. Obviously it's no guarantee, but I like the 77% side much better than the 23% side.

As you correctly point out, St Louis was an exception and there are other examples of teams going on crazy runs at the end of the season that make the playoffs. If you are pedalling that hard just to get in makes it pretty tough to find yet another gear for the playoffs.

Game Night, our Flames are starting to find their way as a group, chemistry developing across the lines, starting to see longer stretches of Sutter suffocating hockey when the team is in their groove on a good shift. Yep this is it, the road to victory begins with the few small steps forward they are taking now and it's an uphill fight to be sure but the top is where we want to be. Good clean, goal scoring, hard hitting, fast moving, winning hockey and it starts in 30 minutes - inject it straight into my veins.
