Unfortunately that package is in the XXS size, which is why he may not be the primary target of a recall. You still have to bring in players that you think will contribute to the success of the team within the style and framework they play. Unless Sutter is going to change the style a bit, and get the hell off the boards, a tiny player is not a good fit. I would give the kid a chance, but to do that would require some changes in the uber-successful style they are playing right now.

Just feels like the obvious pick.

It actually doesn't. Being a prolific scorer in the AHL doesn't mean anything. Ask Andy Poturalski. Playing in the NHL is a different beast and the team just may feel he isn't suited for the speed and physicality of the game. Being a scorer in one league does not mean that success will translate to the next level. The Flames don't need another guy who is going to be picking himself up off his butt most of the night. They have Andrew Mangiapane to fill that role. They need someone that is more north-south go-to-the-net type of guy that can finish Huberdeau's passes. Phillips isn't that guy.

When Poturalski was Phillips' age, he had 49 points in 76 AHL games! He's a beast in his late 20s now but he was never as close to point-per-game coming out of college as Phillips was at age 21 in 2019–20.
Can't compare Calder Trophy-eligible guys to AHL vets, IMO.

I had to Google Poturalski. He's Mangiapane's doppelgänger;

Huberdeau on the ice skating for a bit this morning, wouldn't expect him tonight but this seems like good news overall.

I was told today Huberdeau has been playing with 2 separate injury's for a while now, the first one was against Vegas in game 3.
I hope the Flames don't go all "Monahan" with him and allow him to play injured for months on end

Would make sense based on his overall body of work so far.

You know the players are assessed daily by doctors and therapists right? It's not a sweat shack run by tyrants.

well that answers a few questions . i thought he was nicked up prior to the new york game too but just battling through it
need to get him to 100% . in the mean time we learn how to win as a group without huberdeau and tanev covering up our warts

I can think of of one critical reason why Phillips isn't a "Calder Trophy-eligible" guy. I know you're a fan of the kid and a booster, but that's some pretty hilarious hyperbole in the description of him.

Some medical staffs are better than others at saying "no" to a player who wants to play thru injury, flames staff with Monahan is a perfect example.

Flames got caught fibbing on this one. Eric Francis told Marek that he saw him in walking boot.

Have to wonder why the Flames have not placed Tanev or Huberdeau on IR?

Please tell us what you know about the Monahan situation, because I, for one, don't have any of his medical records handy.
Also, mistakes happen. If anyone wants to imply that there is an issue with the Flames, we're going to need more than a single example.

Um what? He has been reported to have 2 injuries - a foot and an arm (officially: upper body)

Are they actually? I am not convinced of that, but am happy to see the evidence you have to support this assertion.

People are honestly ridiculous about what they think they know about players and their injuries.
