No one is suggesting Meloche "jumped the gun." The team made him available to the media, who asked him a pretty obvious question based on info available at the time. He answered. Then the team waived him. So the team made it awkward by putting him out there in the first place.
All that tweet does is show how business takes precedence over everything.

He’s waived but not assigned to the Wranglers. For all we know he stays with the Flames for the the 30 days and they just felt now was the least risk for him getting claimed.

Isn't Salim the guy who was stirring up drama about players not wanting to play in Calgary after the Gaudreau debacle this summer? Seems like he's not keen on making friends here.

per Steinberg, Meloche is not listed at today's practice which indicates that he probably will be assigned to the Wranglers if he clears waivers

Makes sense, if they can get some cap clearing, to get it. They don’t need to have a 23 man roster with the AHL team in the same city.
Their schedule also sees a lot of home games in the beginning

The Sharks really liked Meloche. I could see them putting in a claim since their team is so crap.
EDIT: Checked out their cap situation. They are capped out?! Has there ever been a team at the cap that is so inept? Only 4 more years of Vlasic @$7mm!

We have an entire thread about a team that has been capped out for 15 years and won multiple draft lotteries over that time...not naming any names.
Really hope Meloche clears and can stay with the team. He's my underdog player for this year.

its quite remarkable that 19 teams have less cap than the Flames
there are some quirky cap stats out there- no team has more cap allocated to forwards than the Habs for example- 54M!!

Pospisil was injured in training camp. Being on waivers today means he is healthy to be sent down.
Flames won't gain any cap space by sending down Pospisil because he was on SOIR and wasn't counting against the cap anyways.

Not too surprised that Meloche cleared, although I was a little nervous since there weren't a lot of players on waivers yesterday and it was a last chance for a team with an unexpected injury to claim someone with at least some NHL experience.
He will be a good player to be able to call up if necessary.
