That's what the team is once Hanifin is up for his extension. Regardless of Kadri they needed a center. Weegar signing would/could have an impact on Hanifin, but not Kadri.

That is awful, I wouldn’t do Hanifin for Nylander straight across

Had a similar thought the other day. Hanifin and Dube (and a mid round pick?) for Nylander and Sandin.

Not confident Toronto would feel great about sacrificing that kind of offence though with only a Dube coming back.

Unless it’s something like a Hanifin for Chychrun swap, I prefer leaving our top six D alone - it’s perfect right now.

Haven’t looked at our updated cap situation yet but maybe they add a Milano or Rodrigues

Yes, no, unsubstantiated (but my nephew usually doesn't lie to me)

I'd be satisfied with Milano/Rodriguez at this point.

Options at wing with upside would be my only remaining concern going into the season.

Weird that neither the Kadri deal nor Monahan trade have been announced by the team yet... Something else must still be in the pipeline.

Watch it be Kessel.

Might as well wrap up Weegar extension and provide it all in a big dramatic press conference

I could see the flames coveting a player like nylander but Hanifin + Dube seems like a lot. If anything, I think the Leafs would have to add to a nylander for Hanifin trade. Hanifin is a top pairing defenseman with a very cap friendly deal. Nylander is a right-winger who is very polarizing amongst media and fans. His cap hit is also higher.

Leafs are getting the player who plays the more important position and are getting cap savings. I think a trade around Hanifin and nylander would have to look more like this:

To leafs: Hanifin
To Flames: Nylander (20% retained) + Holl + 2nd round pick

Lol imagine if the Flames top line next year was:

Huberdeau-Kadri-Nylander

That's like an absurd trade proposal thread that you would roll your eyes out if someone suggested it a month or two ago lol.

A second line of magapane Kadri and Kessel would be interesting.

Leaving a third of Dube Backlund Coleman

Ya idk if the value was exact but I was just looking at positionally and cap

Apparently some of you don't watch Nylander play. I would do Hanifin for Nylander in a second, Toronto wouldn't. I would be willing to bet a significant amount that Nylander on a line with Huberdeau and Lindholm and 1st unit PP time here would hit 100 points. I love Hanifin but Nylander is a star RW buried in the Leafs offensive depth. You fax that in immediately and start the fn car.

Hanifin is owed just under 10M for the next two seasons. Nylander is owed 8.5M in that same timeframe. Higher cap hit, but because of frontloaded and signing bonus, he's actually got an amazing contract now based on actual salary owed.

Hanifin for Nylander seems like a pretty reasonable basis for a trade.
