Mangiapane should also be a prime candidate for the top line. He has scored in a secondary role with limited PP time, and is a tenacious defensively responsible player who could reach another level getting more time in offensive situations with top players. He could easily get 40+ on the top line, and I think deserves an opportunity.

Dube needs to step up to be even a reliable 2nd liner

He was 7th in point/icetime five on five on the Flames last year, and the team lost two and replaced only one of the guys ahead of him. So he really is right there.

League wide last year he was 212th in point/icetime which would be forward 6.6 on the average NHL team.

Not as far off as you make it sound.

Key is the pace ... is Dube the April guy? If so then he's very much top six. Or is he the Oct-Dec guy?

Likely he's the average of both and where he ended up ... just out of the top six but knocking on the door.

Yeah that’s why I said step up. There were games that I thought he was going to be the next Mangi then he disappeared for long stretches. At his best, he is easily a top 6.

But my point was at his average he's essentially top six.

Dube had 1 assist in 12 playoff games 14:19 / game in ice time.

the Forwards with slightly more ice time: Mangiapane 15:34 , Coleman 14:48, Jarnkrok 14:29

The Flames gave a hard pass on Jarnkrok to be on the 3rd line (or maybe 1st) when they passed on his 2.1x4 contract with the Leafs.

The Flames #1 line when Sutter switched Mangiapane in for Toffolli was Backlund-Coleman-Magniapane.

Huberdeau is a spectacular 2nd liner when playing with Bennett and Duclair

The Flames did in fact trade for Tofolli to be in the 2022-23 top-6 as they had to be pretty sure that they would be unable to keep Tkachuk and Gaudreau.
