Jarnkrok is coming off a 6-year deal with Nashville worth $2 million per year. He clearly values security over AAV. Willing to bet he might have been able to get $3m+ from a team on a deal with shorter term.

I'd like to think some valuable lessons have been learned here regarding overestimating the team's cup chances and making all-in moves at trade deadlines...

We traded for a UFA at the deadline. As soon as the Flames were eliminated from the playoffs the returns of the trade were completed.

1 goal in 29 games with Calgary, and the Leafs gave this man 4 years and $8.4M.

Lmfao.

Despite his flaws, one thing that I do give Treliving credit for is that he is willing to take his lumps and learn from mistakes. It's part of the reason that I'm hesitant to see him leave as a GM. I feel like he's starting to become competent as a GM (including having a good management group around him) and that would be the moment we send him out the door.

By my count the Flames have 4 UFAs left unsigned (Michael Stone, Brett Ritchie, Adam Werner and Tyler Parsons)

A whole pile of the AHLers were signed quite quickly....

Don't forget the 7 assists!

What a horrible trade. Like Edmonton Oilers bad trade. 2 seconds for AA, this is pretty fn close. At least AA got hurt.

Magic beans get you more than 1 goal and 7 assists in 29 games. 3 draft picks for this guy?

Toronto signed a plug for 4 years and ate up cap space they needed.

I am glad he is gone.

Maybe we did not use him right but man. For a 2nd 3rd and 7th pick we got robbed.

Athanasiou doesn't play defence. Jarnkrok does.

Goals and assists are only half of the equation with this guy.

We could of got the player this year without giving up 3 draft picks.

His contract is fine.

What we gave up was not.

I wouldn't mind that either but it's not the MO of Treliving or Sutter. I don't see a master plan in effect this off-season, just a team getting weaker as each day goes by.

The risk was always there that Jarnkrok would end up a rental.

A lot of folks thought it was a good pickup at the time.

C'est la vie.

I dunno. He's a 3rd line (more a 4th line guy on a contender).

OK contract I suppose, but glad it isn't with the flames regardless of the direction they take this season.

He was miscast in Calgary as a bottom 6 guy role player. In Nashville, he was in their top 6 with better linemates and looked great. Great value contract
