Trade valuable assets for picks. Increase your young base of prospects. For now Couture is as productive as Lindholm and augments his game in the playoffs. Stay competitive for a couple years but get assets like you're rebuilding. Eventually Backlund, Kadri, and Couture age out but you could get a solid 2 or 3 years from them.

I think the thought would be trade Lindholm and Toffoli and get 1st round picks or 1st round caliber prospects and then trade a 3rd and a career AHLer for 33% retained Couture. You get Couture at about $5.6 mil for 4 years and gain assets.

Not a huge fan but this whole thread is about how Burns at 37 is still playing at a very high level. Couture is still a good player. Difference for me is his health vs Burns

If we traded Backlund and Toffoli and did a Couture deal I'd be more for it. Especially if the returns on Backlund and Toffoli are much better than what it costs to get Couture. Also, assuming we signed Lindholm.
