Or the reportedly very injured player was injured I mean. But nevermind that one.

Wonder if there was a NMC involved heh.
I say that only partially jokingly because of more favourable tax treatment in Vegas than Montreal; no way Weber turns this down. But I do wonder if NMCs take LTIR into consideration.

It would be great if Weber after hearing the news of traded to Vegas , changed his mind and tried to comeback. I mean it would never happen but to see Vegas gm look if he heard Webber coming back would be priceless

Don't see how this is circumventing anything. Vegas gives up a good player and gets nothing useful in return. It's the NMC that kills teams every time. Suck it Vegas.
How limited was Dadonov's list?

Who puts Anaheim on their no-trade list but not Montreal?

It is totally cap circumvention. It is an NHL darling though so nothing. You can bet if BT tried this that would be when the NHL would crack down on it.

It's the same list he gave to Ottawa last year. Montreal had just played in the Stanley Cup Final and Anaheim had just finished 30th out of 31 teams. Also, since it was Ottawa, he might have assumed they wouldn't trade with the Habs, so it would be a wasted spot to put them on the list.

I agree. How about make GMs be more responsible rather than having these arbitrary rules how to get rid of cap.

They gave up a quality player for nothing ! Actually worst then nothing ! They have to still pay Weber !!
LV is worst today after this trade. I’m not sure what people are upset over
It’s not like they somehow kept the team together without trading anyone
If they traded Dadonov for a 7th people would be laughing and saying “stupid vegas had to give Dadonov away for nothing “ - we’ll they got less then nothing in this deal

I assume a Weber is not moving to Vegas, so he’ll be taxed based on where he is living.

Is it cap circumvention if Calgary traded Monny with a second round pick for a bag of chips?
Vegas paid a price to move a player with negative value, it’s done all the time.

They got out of a bad contract they just signed with zero hockey implications

Dadonov will like Montreal, they have a huge Russian community.
I think this off season is going to kick off a huge influx of Russian players to North America, btw. Those tax-free KHL salaries are only appealing if banks outside of Russia will touch the money.
I wonder if it makes more sense to keep Zadorov over Gudbranson - having one Russian regular in the lineup might make other Russians more willing to play here. Not the superstar ones, but the quality second tier of talent that didn’t become pro hockey players to stand in bread lines.

No issue with stuff like this IMO
It actually hurts Vegas all off-season from a cap perspective the next couple seasons and it’s not like Weber is going to magically come back to the playoffs after not counting to the cap all season.
I could see Vegas paying a pick to try to flip Weber to Arizona now
$5M for Dadonov who had 43 points last year isn’t a terrible or bad contract either and with only 1 year the term is fine.

Are you sure anyone in the NHL actually understands the concept of precedent? DoPS certainly doesn't, nor do replay officials...

Which contract is that? Dadanov was signed by OTT and VGK acquired him last off-season...the AAV isn't particularly bad, it's the $6.5M in cash that makes Dadanov's deal unattractive.
