Wasn't Backlund like the 5th or 10th shooter that night?

And that was Backlund’s first career shootout goal vs Pittsburgh.

I understand the why, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t shake my head when he was out there first.

A little more effort in the first two periods and maybe a little less dopey playing likely would have won them the game. Not a big deal....just a deal.

Flames looked sleepy and uninspired. Until they scored.

It's pretty tough for any team to go through the whole season without a couple of small hiccups. I am not especially worried. On the other hand I am also somewhat amused that the Kings have gained ground Edmonton with this result, and I can't help but think that the Oilers would get destroyed by them in the playoffs.

Well. A point from a game they didn't deserve any in. I'll take it. This team is so much better than they played the last couple games.

Me right now:

He didn't accomplish much, but he's our shutdown defensive forward out against Kempe and Kopitar first in OT. Sometimes you're just trying to stop the other team's top players from scoring, and simply surviving is a good strategy.

He was fine during his first shift, then when Lindholm hops on fresh to replace Backs, Lindholm stops moving his feet for some reason and curls back into a bad spot, coughs up the puck, has one hand on his stick which he drops, then takes an obvious penalty.

Backlund was then good on the PK in OT.

Odd player to focus on IMO.

Internet died when it was 2-1...at least I didn't have to watch the ending to an otherwise borefest of a game

They absolutely would. Kings are a pretty solid team this year and won't be an easy out by any means, especially if they get some healthy bodies back into their lineup.

You don't put Backlund out in OT and especially not on the 1st unit.

Holy #### that was both incredibly boring and some of the worst hockey I've seen us play all season. We were lucky to score two tonight.
Great that we were able to salvage a point, but I hope we look a little better on Saturday.

Lindholm should have been first. Chucky is trying to be way too fancy.

I thought they were quite good against Colorado in a close tight-checking game, and they fired 45 shots on net. They just didn't get the bounces in that one. As opposed to tonight where they sleepwalked through the first two periods.

I know Chucky had 5(?) points against Edmonton, but he's trying to do way too much right now. He needs to simplify his game, because the all the cutesy stuff he's doing right now isn't working.

Yep, the Kings would absolutely out-structure/defend/goaltend the Oilers. They have better work ethic top to bottom, too.

Flames again with a 60 or 70% effort tonight.

It didn't help that it appears that most of the forward ranks are snake bitten at the same time right now.

First prolonged slump for Mangiapane, which takes away from our middle six scoring where he's usually reliable.

I'm thinking maybe this team needs to get on the road. A couple of multi day breaks at home while you're atop the division and I bet your mind wanders from hockey a bit. Shacking up and traveling might get their heads back into it.

That shootout is likely irrelevant to the Flames season...in a playoff game it's still tied.

Extra point won't change the Flames placement

Maybe, but Lindholm is just as good defensively and better offensively. But it’s true that Lindy wasn’t great when he got on anyway. No one was really. The Flames aren’t a great OT team, especially because there’s not a lot to offer for defencemen, especially with OK out. You need that skating D. The next best skater on D is Hanifin and he’s just not creative. It’s also the case that the Flames best offensive players aren’t that fast, especially Tkachuk and Toffoli. Even Mangiapane and Gaudreau are more quick than fast.

Sloppy game and we still got a point. Can’t win them all.
