I expect we see Vladar tomorrow, like against the Avs after back-to-backs. It's a mind game thing for Sutter. Showing the other teams and coaches we aren't saving our number 1 for you.
We win, we beat the mighty Oilers with our backup (who Sutter still says is the best in the division with Vegas)
We lose, they can point to backup goalie and back to back as reasoning.

Sutter usually likes to give new guys a practice or two before throwing them in. And with a guy at his level, no rush.

If giving Monahan games off gets us even some 80% performances from him then its worth doing.

I'm excited to see if Carpenter can bring some of what he did to Vegas during the run there. Just be feisty and engaged and help his line to grind out shifts at the other end of the ice.

Coleman - Backlund - Lewis
Mangiapane - Jarnkrok - Toffoli
Lucic - Dube - Ritchie

I could see that. Stinks for Dube but I can see that happening.

Prior to coming here, Jarnkrok didn’t play centre this season (and not that much in Nashville). And Carpenter played very little. Yet people pencil both in at that spot.

Why not start Vladar here and use Markstrom against Oilers?
If Sutter overplays Markstrom and he breaks down before playoffs I am going to be depressed.

Sutter said that he has an exact number of minutes he has planned for each goalie. But while the Oilers are no good, AZ is worse, especially offensively. So if you’re worried about Markstrom’s fatigue, giving him an easier start makes sense.

I think Sutter believes firmly in the "get the first win in back to backs" theory.
If you start your backup and he blows it, then you have a tired team in front of your starter the next night and could get swept.

I think Sutter is making sure that we win all winnable games and collect the points. Today they should get 2 points and Markstrom can get his game.
Tomorrow's game is important but 2 points today makes that game less stressful.

as much as we care about beating the Oilers for bragging rights both games are worth the same 2 points. Sutter wants to make sure the Flames get two and don't start a losing streak. Besides he will probably get 15 shots or so, might play both and get a games worth.

That's why I added that he didn't play the position this season. Sutter had Monahan, Dube, Ruzicka, Richardson ahead of him as centers. I believe he can play the position, but it seems as though our coaches are more comfortable having him play on the wing.
I personally don't remember the last time he played center. He mostly had Thompson as his center in WPG. In LA (2019-20) he played with Clifford as his winger with ether Amadio or Carter at center. Anyways, I'd be surprised if he played more than 2-3 games that season as a center. That's why I don't put too much stock into Lewis at center.
