As I understand it, I don't believe Salim is correct about not being able to use the Richardson cap space until after he is claimed or clears at noon MT tomorrow.
I believe the league only requires cap compliance each day at 5:00pm ET, so as long as the Flames are compliant today at 5:00pm ET and compliant tomorrow at 5:00pm ET, they can make moves in between that temporarily make them non-compliant.

Yeah, I remember this being brought up after trading for Jarnkrok. The deadline had already reset so they didn't need to send down Ruzicka right away.

I think quite a few internationals have left KHL, and of course two full teams have quit on their seasons and effectively left the league. (Jokerit Helsinki and Dynamo Riga). Many of them have already been snatched up by other European teams, but I would imagine that with the ruble crashing and the country making a quick turn towards a full totalitarian dictatorship, it might not take much to even lure some Russians out from their teams, playoffs or not.
If someone has good contacts in KHL, it might pay off in the shape of some cheap and decent quality depth players. A unique opportunity certainly.

A team would already need to have a roster spot available to claim Richardson, right?
EDM, VGK, and TBL are the only possible playoff teams with 2 spots open; TBL seems possible givent heir 2for1 deal the other day.
LAK/CAR/NYR each have 1 spot...presumably they'd like a little flexibility tomorrow, but LAK have lots of F injuries and would have familiarity with Richardson...

There is no more roster limit as of midnight tonight. A team only needs the available cap space to add a player after that.

I would be stunned if anyone claimed Richardson. I could however see him included in a deal as a contract once he clears waivers...but even that is unlikely.

I think the Leafs would be very happy to go shopping for another goalie if another team was actually willing to take on Mrazek's contract.
