I would say that this trade got a better return than the Iginla deal.

The Iginla trade makes this look like Forsberg/Lindros.

Seems like a lot of assets to give up just to lose to Tampa in the 2nd round

Pretty good return for a guy with one destination in mind. I guess the Flyers could have kept him if all they got was Taylor Hall to the Bruins type offer since he is a franchise icon.

Florida taking the LA Rams approach. Eff them picks

Flames didn't get anyone close to a Tippett.

Giroux centering him next year in Philly will be funny

Now Philly has cap space for Johnny?

I think the expectation is that Giroux resigns in philly in the summer. But of course that may not happen.

Maybe Flames can sign Giroux if they lose Johnny

They have less space for next year after this deal so not really relevant

I really hate this part of it, but if there was ever a team that needed to go on a prolonged playoff run, it's the Panthers. The fanbase needs to be re-energized, and the team is too good to not load up for a playoff run this year.

I don't know how good they'll be in 2-3 years time, but for now, they're great. Go for it.

This is a helluva deep team:

Giroux-Barkov-Verhaeghe
Huberdeau-Bennett-Duclair
Marchment-Lundell-Reinhart
Thornton-Acciari-Hornqvist
Extra: Lomberg-Luotsarinen

Ekblad-Weegar
Forsling-Chiarot
Montour-Gudas
Extra: Carlsson, Nutivaara

Bobrovsky-Knight

I cannot find a single hole on this team. It just depends on their level of play in the playoffs. They showed well against Tampa last year, but were outmatched. This year, I think only Carolina can stop them in the East.

It's hard not to be excited.

^exactly. Panthers have to be the favourites to make it out of the east. Last year they didn't have Ekblad available as he was injured. Would have been a different series if he was healthy.

That's never happening, Tippett is a complete dud. But he is a prototypical, old school GM's wet dream with size and speed. He tries but doesn't have a head for the nhl.

Looks to be them or Carolina.

Bennett has seemingly cooled lately. I wonder if he’s pushed down the lineup, and how he fares if so.
