Dzingel once had a promising young career and was going to be due for a nice payday. 44pts in 59 games for the Sens a few years back. After leaving Ottawa it's kind of been a disaster for him and now he's fighting for playing time while bouncing around the league. Professional sports can be fickle AF.

Dzingel waived to go to the Marlies.

I don’t disagree. I’m curious what the breakdown of cash they make off that license is though. Would explain why they are still a team to be honest. I can’t find the article I was reading about it anymore. I came across it on Twitter.

I think in the main Coyotes saga thread it was revealed that Meruelo hasn't actually done anything with that gambling license yet

They finally did at the beginning of January: https://www.nhl.com/coyotes/news/sah...er/c-329465268

So it will be some time yet before there's any information about how much money that makes them.

But when you consider that the Coyotes look to have 3 first rounders and 5 2nd rounders in the 2022 draft, and 3 2nd rounders in the 2024 draft. Pushing picks to later drafts make sense. Can only have so many developing at one time.
I think it's really interesting that the "time value of picks" is a third rounder turns into a second two years later.

I wonder if that would be a reproducible valuation. If so I think it would be very good GMing in the long run to trade the third every year for a second two years down the road.

I suspect this would be easier with later round picks, everything except firsts. Probably always GMs willing to trade the future for a shot now.

The 2nd could be a really good bet. Next year's 3rd is likely to be 80th or worse, but by 2025 TOR will have already had expired: Matthews, Nylander, Muzzin, Brodie, with Marner and Tavares expiring that season. I'm sure they'll reload along the way, but it's more than possible the pick is in the 30s or early 40s.

Sharks claim Dzingel off waivers

Leafs trade for Carter Hutton from Coyotes. (Not worth its own thread)

Wonder if that means they have something lined up to ship Mrazek out.

The leafs loaned hutton back to arizona’s ahl team apparently, so hutton won’t actually move. He’s basically just the coyotes moving a contract.

Missed opportunity on some free goaltending here for the Oilers. People think they’re an AHL team especially with Woodcroft behind the bench!

I would 100% take the second over the third. I'd love it if Treliving could straight up trade 3rds for 2nds two years out.
