I love how all of us were probably squeezing our cheeks thinking Sutter might sit Toffoli out. Or put him in for Dube instead. Or jumble up the lines. He’s never fully predictable, but often right. In Sutter we trust.
Still it’s so satisfying to see Toffoli slot in exactly where everyone had hoped. Just seems like the perfect fit.
These games after a big trade are always the most exciting. Could never imagine being so excited for a midweek bluejackets/ducks B2B.

Looking so forward to watching this game... I'm certain Toffoli is in on the Monahan line where they have him penciled in the lineup.
They said that the Backlund line has only let in 5 even strength goals all season - so with all Mangiapane's even strength goals not to mention Backlund's recent streak, that's huge for our plus/minus - hard to break up that line. Our first line... can't say much more positive there with both Gaudreau and Lindholm atop the NHL in plus/minus and Tkachuk right up there as well - they are the best or next to it line in hockey - can't touch that. So with Toffoli on our third line, hopefully it gets Monahan and Dube going, can you imagine if it does and facing our team with they way Sutter runs out four line consistently. Our forth line with Lucic, Lewis, and Ruzicka - hard and they can score too - it's a great lineup.
Sutter asked repeatedly about similarities between this Flames team and his cup-winning Kings teams. He was, uh, very spare with praise for the current club. Lol.

If Toffoli can get Dube and Monahan to turn that 62.5% xGF rate into actual goals then that would be huge. Those two have had a 3.7% on-ice shooting percentage this year which is ridiculously low, they are due for a regression to the mean here and hopefully Toffoli can help unlock that as a pure finisher.

I hope/think it will happen... I think Dube's issues are that he seems to be hogging the puck out there and then gets easily separated from it with a hit, with Toffoli out there to pass to, I hope he distributes the puck better to both his linemates - just that would make a huge difference.

Toffoli will create a bunch of rebounds if Dube goes to the net.
I actually wouldn't mind Lucic on the line. Dube-Ruzicka-Lewis would be a pretty effective 4th line and Lucic has the brains to play with Monahan/Toffoli (and was on a big producing line with Toffoli and Carter in LA as well).

Dube is too fast for Ritchie and Monahan and thus gets caught by himself up ice a lot. If he has the puck his mates aren't there yet. If he doesn't he's too far for a pass. If Backlund could stand losing Coleman, Dube would do better on that line - it's generally faster. Coleman-Monahan-Toffoli would be at least as good as Dube-Monahan-Toffoli. It's only a question of whether that hurts the second line too much.
Always. I am willing to bet without looking that if one were to review Sutter's post ASG comments from 2012 we would hear many of the same sorts of things.
