Dylan Strome is excatly the kind of player I would love to add. But Chicago might not do any work until they've named a full time GM.

I don't want to see yet another depth d-man added. We still have Stone, Valimaki, Mackey, who I think all would be acceptable as depth fill-ins if needed. Absolutely add a middle 6 forward. Toffoli just seems too perfect, goal-scoring RW with a history with Sutter. More importantly, it pushes a guy like Ritchie or Lewis out of the top 12.
Kessel as a backup option since it sounds like it would be cheap. Domi and Strome are also interesting

They should be buyers. Use the 1st if a player like Giroux or Hertl is available. If not, Kessel is a player that they can probably get with their 2nd+. The Flames need a top 9 RW who can chip in and it would be a bonus if they could help PP2 and have playoff experience. Toffoli is better at this point but the extra years make a tough offseason even tougher to manage so Kessel would be my target.
Gaudreau Lindholm Tkachuk
Mangiapane Backlund Coleman
Dube Monahan Kessel
Lucic Ruzicka Lewis/Ritchie
With limited cap space, I don't think they should spend it on a defenseman. No need to mess with the top 4 and the third pair has size they will want in the playoffs.
Overall, the Flames were built for the playoffs from the start and have one glaring weakness to be shored up. Hopefully postseason success will help with negotiations.

I'm usually pretty open-minded about selling but not here. When you're getting goaltending like this, with this coach, and a first line performing at this rate, it's a rare opportunity to go for it. I think we need better centers though. Seems like both Backlund and Monahan are falling off at the same time. Not sure who's available on that front but a top 9 C would go a lot further than a top 9 winger for me

That’s not good enough.
With an old building and no fans/reduced capacity, it’s the perfect time to cut costs and start fresh.
Give us a show this spring.

Let's look at potential sellers and what Forwards they may be looking to move that could fit a need here:
Montreal:
Hoffman: 3 x $4.5M
Toffoli: 3 x $4.25M
Lehkonen: 1 x $2.3M (RFA)
Winnipeg
Stastny: 1 x $3.75M (UFA)
Copp: 1 x $3.64M (UFA)
Vancouver
JT Miller: 2 x $5.25M
Pearson: 3 x $3.25M (7 team NTC)
Motte: 1 x $1.225M (UFA)
Chicago
Debrincat: 2 x $6.4M
Kubalik: 1 x $3.7M (RFA)
Strome: 1 x $3.0M (RFA)
Dallas
Pavelski: 1 x $7M (UFA - 3 Team Trade List)
Radulov: 1 x $6.25M (UFA - 15 Team No-Trade List)
Gurianov: 1 x $2.55M (RFA)
Philadelphia
Giroux: 1 x $8.275M (UFA- Full NMC)
van Riemsdyk: 2 x $7M
Konecny: 4 x $5.5M
Los Angeles
Brown: 1 x $5.875M (UFA - 7 team NTC)
Athanasiou: 1 x $2.7M (UFA)
Islanders
Beauvillier: 3 x $4.15M
Clutterbuck: 1 x $3.5M (UFA)
Sharks
Hertl: 1 x $5.625M (3 team trade list)
Bonino: 2 x $2.05M (5 team no-trade list)
Kraken
Eberle: 3 x $5.5M (16 team no trade list)
Donskoi: 2 x $3.9M
Jarnkrok: 1 x $2M (UFA)
Johansson: 1 x $1.5M (UFA)
Arizona
Kessel: 1 x $6.8M (UFA - 8 team trade list)
Boyd: 1 x $0.75M (UFA)
Crouse: 1 X $1.53 (RFA)
Detroit
Namestnikov: 1 x $2M (UFA)
Zadina: 1 x $0.9M (RFA)
Ottawa
Brown: 2 x $3.6M
Ennis: 1 x $0.9M (UFA)
Sanford: 1 x $2M (UFA)
Columbus
Domi: 1 x $5.3M (UFA)
Laine: 1 x $7.5M (RFA)
Anaheim
Rakell: 1 x $3.8m (UFA)
Getzlaf: 1 x $3M (UFA - Full NMC)
Comtois: 2 x $2.04M
Buffalo
Olofsson: 1 x $3.05M (RFA)
Eakin: 1 x $2.25M (UFA)
If I had to pick a couple of names as targets it would be Toffoli, C.Brown, and Domi. Copp is really interesting too, not as much a well known name around the league but 67 points in his last 97 games the last two years.
Flames have $5.5M in deadline space as it stands right now, if they can move Pitlick the other way in a deal that means probably around $7.5M to work with potentially plus could try to convince the other team to retain.

Debrusk, Domi, Brown, Copp, Jarnkrok
2 2nds for Domi
Dube for Debrusk
4th+prospect for Jarnkrok
Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk

I hope there are, but I wouldn’t plan for 19,289 being a regular thing.
There’s no predicting COVID, and our ability to cooperate with each other seems to be deteriorating.
Revenues have obviously taken a beating the last 24 months - It just seems like the ideal moment to start over.
I have no great love for the owners, but I couldn’t hold it against them if they decided to slash payroll by $15-18M at this point in time.
And if I seem pessimistic, it’s only because I don’t see a long-term plan or vision for what they want this team to be. It’s like they make all their moves in a vacuum.

I like a lot of those names. The flames would be kinda nasty to add 2 of them I think

Not Kessel. Too inconsistent and just not enough of what Flames need.
Ya gotta give good to get good. Get good, please, and be happy to give good for it. No more depth guys. That's all I ask.

Absolutely all in.
Flames clearly need more scoring depth. A legit shooter who can score from anywhere on the ice especially.
Get two top 6/9 forwards and I can see the Flames doing some serious damage in the playoffs.

I made a table of all the UFA's at the end of the season which play on teams I find as potential sellers.
The table is sorted based on P/GP, with at least 10 games this season. It also highlights contacts over the Flames' cap space at the trade deadline($5.55M). Finally it highlights NMC,NTC, and right shooting forwards.
All the information is taken from capfriendly. Hope it gives some of you a better way to visualize some of the pure rentals in this upcoming deadline.

Yeah, as a fan i would love Hot Dog Phil just for the lols, but I wonder how he would embrace playing under Sutter. He could probably contribute but I'm not sure he's the guy Sutter would have as his first pick.
Also, in terms of "giving good" -- is Dube on the table? I think there's still a lot of untapped potential there, but if the objective is to go all in I think he'd be a prime asset if the price was right.

Treliving will not be able to do anything meaningful at the deadline unless he knows for sure if Gaudreau and Tkachuk want to stay. Everything else falls out of that. If Markstrom continues to play well, this team can go deep in the playoffs. Our defense is built for playoffs for the first time in 15-16 seasons. Our top line is in its top shape. Our 2nd line needs to improve but has the potential to improve. And our 3rd and 4th lines are decent but need to be beefed up a bit.
If G&T are willing to stay and if Treliving is willing to pay what it takes to keep them, then his decisions at the deadline will be crippled by cap space constraints and limited to cheap bits and pieces.
If G&T are keeping their cards to their chests, then Treliving has to gamble:
- No trading them now, means zero return on our best assets.
- Trading them now would bring great returns, but no shot at the Cup when the team is playing well. All hypothesis aside, we all know they are not gonna be traded now (unless their agents come forward and suggest that to him).
I am guessing, Tre will do his usual thing and add a couple of depth players none of us can even think of... We won't like it, but what else can he do in this situation, really?
Which brings me to the point: he should go all-in, because we may not have a legitimate shot at the Cup for a while.

Kessel’s 29 points would put him ahead of Mangiapane and 4th in team scoring.
He’s almost exactly what the team needs - more high end skill.
And he doesn’t miss games.

The reason I am against all in is due to the uncertain future of the team. I am not big on losing Johnny for nothing and then having no 1st and possibly losing other key young players and prospects in a failed attempt to win it all.
I think this team is set at the key positions and it is just the second/third line and maybe third pair that need work

All in, without a doubt.
This is a team, with a few more pieces, that has a legitimate shot at the Cup. It has three of its core (Mony included) coming up as FAs.
Push the chips in for a chance to win, because if we don't, get booted first or second round, and Johnny and Matty take off then we are bound to live the next 5 years in mediocrity.
I'd take the risk now
