Florida, Tampa and Carolina are probably the best 3 teams in the league. If these are measuring stick games for the Flames then we now know the Flames aren't in the same class as them. No way, shocking.
And to be honest, if we're worried how this team would stack up against these teams in the playoffs that means the Flames made the Finals. I'll take that worry every day of the week.

These were measuring stick games and it's pretty clear that when playing top teams that also have excellent coaching, there is a gap in roster quality.
It's still a fun season and the Flames are not going to be an easy out against anyone in a playoff series. However, they need to bring in some talent if they're going for it.
Hopefully they can win tomorrow and get back to their A game (which I don't think they've had for a while now). I really liked their effort vs the Canes last time.

Stamkos aggressively hooked Johnny which directly led to Stamkos being able to break up the ice with the puck leading to the goal. Johnny was pissed off and went at ‘em.
Thanks, good for Johnny. Mighta been able to get a piece of that brittle old guy, you never know.
These are measuring stick games and the Flames have come away wanting. Treliving needs to find another skilled forward to generate some added offense. Whether that come through trade or from within the system, they need to get another skilled body in the lineup. You can not be successful in the NHL as a one line team. The Flames are very much a one line team. The potential is there for three solid scoring lines, but another skilled player, and some adjustment by our coach, is needed to achieve that lineup.

You know I don't always agree with you, but you're spot-on here.

These Florida games just seemed to wear the Flames down as the game went along. Eventually the Flames started making mistakes and the Lightning and Panthers capitalized. Flames are gonna need to make some adjustments to contend with deeper rosters.
I feel my age as I type this but back in the day (and you kids better stay off my lawn) this is when Fletcher would fleece Caron for Joey Mullen and all would be right in Flames land. I am well aware that there are salary cap issues/constraints etc now but I rather miss those days.

This will really blow your mind. I'd even be open to giving Matthew Phillips an audition at this point. I'd prefer Pelletier or even Zary (damn injury) but Phillips has hit that magical PPG average in the AHL, so maybe give him a shot with Monahan and Coleman? What is the worst that can happen?

I wouldn't promote Zary at this point — I'd bring up other guys and put Zary on the top line. He's been improving lately.
Heyo, welcome to the Phillips club! He's been really good of late, too. Funny what happens when your team doesn't get gutted of all its support players 12 games into the season...

I agree. Early in the season the question was asked what happens when Lindholm and Mangiapane stop scoring? First line has been good but nobody has picked up Mangiapane since his scoring has dried up.
They need a 2nd line or 2 3rds of a 2nd line to play with Mangiapane. Right now with a stacked first line he’s the only guy you can hope might chip in offensively
They also need to get Hanifin off the 2nd unit and let kylington QB that pp
