Hmmmm.....sound familiar?

Unable to come to terms on a new contract with the Flames prior to the 2007–08 season, Giordano left the NHL to sign with HC Dynamo Moscow of the Russian Super League.... According to Playfair, Giordano did not sign in Russia over money. Instead, he left due to the fact that he felt he had proven what he could do in the AHL and, lacking a guarantee that he would be in the NHL, sought a higher-calibre league in which to play.[10] He scored 4 goals and 13 points in 50 games with Dynamo, and played with the winning Canadian team at the 2007 Spengler Cup. The Canadian national team named him an alternate at the 2008 IIHF World Championship in case of injury to a roster player, however he never appeared in a game. Though he feared his decision to leave for Russia would damage his relationship with the Flames, Giordano and the team came to terms on a three-year contract that brought him back to Calgary for the 2008–09 NHL season.

So ...maybe the circumstances are different but i see similarities.....and the future is bright still but the work needs to be done.

Kylington endured and is still not free of learning through tough breaks but he's much improved. Jusso just needs to keep working IMO....hell be in there soon enough unless Mackey passes him on thr depth chart me thinks .
Hmmmmmmm..

Kylington wasn't exactly treated fairly either. He often played well and then was benched for demoted. This happened for years.

For a guy who fell so far in the draft, Kylington has always handled things exceptionally professionally. I have never heard a peep of a complaint from him, even though it was often justified.
Now it looks like his patience is paying off. There's a reason the Flames held onto him.

Valimaki should be looking at Kylington to see how ice time is earned, not given. Maybe it impossible or outright foolish for the coach not to play you.

He also scored the own goal vs SJ, and otherwise didn't look irreplaceable.
I’m no Zadorov fan, but if they scratch a Dman for coughing up a puck and giving up an odd man rush, there are a bunch of Dmen sitting next game. Including Tanev, Kylington, Hanifin, Gudbranson.

Now, overall, yeah, I don’t think he should have been kept in, but I actually thought it was a pretty good game for him.

I feel like I agree with Juuso but airing this stuff in the media rarely turns out well. I really hope he hasn't shot himself in the foot with this approach and things work out.

I can see a Sutter-type, or a Sutter for that matter, punishing a player for handling things in this manner, right or wrong.

Crazy. At the start of the season I would have guessed Valimaki would be where Kylington is and that Kylington would be where Valimaki is.

Whining to the media is not going to help anything though.

Even if Sutter was in absolute love with the play of Zadorov or Lewis, the GM has the final say on the roster.

Tre is very much a part of the problem. And this problem has existed long before Darryl Sutter. When Ward, Peters, and Gulutzan were making baffling decisions on player usage, the GM did nothing to get the roster on the ice that we were supposed to have. All we have to show for it is Heineman, a second, a massive draft pick deficit used to acquire Zadorov, Hamonic, Gustfafsson, Fantenberg, etc etc

Tre took over a team with some of the best drafting in the NHL, period, and has managed to populate it with overpaid anchors on a yearly basis.
You’re really reaching here.

Might be time to move on, maybe a Connor Brown for Jusso Valimaki trade? I think this would make sense for both teams.

Roster =/= lineup, which is the coach’s say. Sutter could dress Valimaki if he wanted. BTW, Treliving also acquired Tanev, Andersson, Valimaki and Kylington. He acquired every defenceman on the team, so I’d say, he doesn’t mind who Sutter plays.

Usually turns out well for the player but not the team.

Weird how no one felt the same way about Bennett.

I always feel like this is a sure way for a player not to get into the lineup for at least a couple games. Even if a coach feels like they have a point, dressing them right after an open complaint is a bad look for the rest of the team and encourages more public griping.

Is this reminiscent to Giordano's early years? 06-08

Letting your kids play through their mistakes pays off in the long run, if they have NHL upside.

I wish I could say I’m surprised these woefully uninformed arguments are still being made, but it seems the Calgary Puck echo chamber is humming along as usual.

It seems to me the same posters who continue to point out the Flames should have traded Valimaki + for a handful of months of Mark Stone are likely the same ones who would be whining incessantly about the Flames giving up a top prospect for a rental.

You guys who dream up imaginary scenarios over deals, or in this case deals that didn’t happen, nearly three years ago in which you actually have no idea what the terms of the deal would have been should be embarrassed. You’re complaining for the sake of complaining. If this is how you choose to spend your time, it might be time for some perspective.

The structure would lead me to believe that it's a poor translation. Google translate is OK for getting "an idea" of context...but fails miserably at nuance.

I can't imagine his trade value is overly high. Right now all he has going for him is that he was a former 1st round pick. He's just not been that good but he's still 23 so you hope that he continues to get better. It does feel like he's probably not going to live up to his status of 1st round pick but it happens.

I would hope someone who covers the team would actually talk to someone who can read Finnish to confirm Google translate is somewhat accurate before reporting it. If not, very lazy reporting.

Im glad he thinks its stupid. Im sure Kylington also thought it was stupid when he wasnt being played. Hopefully fires him up to play well when he does finally get back into the lineup.

Valimaki needs to badly work on his footwork and agility. In Finland, there’s so much room to operate that perhaps his lack of mobility is masked a bit; but in the NHL rinks, there’s no time or space to fumble about.

Until Valimaki improves this attribute, he will struggle to keep up at the pace required at the NHL level. I think that’s why Darryl prefers Kylington over Valimaki, because even though he plays smaller and gets manhandled seemingly every other game, he’s very nimble and can recover quickly whereas once you beat Valimaki, he’s done.
