It could be as simple as you suggest, but teams don’t often commit to a large salary to a player only to have him sit. This on the surface looked like the perfect opportunity to give him another shot.
A guy who is dealing with injury doesn't take normal practice rushes. If he was dealing with an injury he would be resting and recovering. Steinberg had 0 basis for his speculation just his thoughts.

Tell that to Monahan, or Tanev last year. I don’t have Steinberg’s sources, and I don’t cite it as a fact. I was just trying to add to the discussion.

On a Flamesnation live chat last night, Steinberg mentioned that Zadorov had missed a practice day recently, hence why he believed he was a little banged up. He is practicing with the team again, but still wondered if that was the case.

If you're dealing with an injury that won't be aggravated by it, it only makes sense you'd keep practicing, focusing on the system, staying in shape...

It actually looks like he is in the lineup tonight.

Sutter kiboshes the speculation that Zadorov was injured.

Hopefully that means Kylington stays in all year.

3rd pairing looks scary though.

Lucky for us we'll have last change to minimize the damage. I still think that pairing is in for a rough ride.

I have no problem with Sutter swapping guys in and out. I think it'll keep them motivated, focused and rested. It'll give guys watching the opportunity to see the game from another angle as well, and hopefully cement what it is Sutter wants them to do and not do.

Valimaki (and Stone) both played well, especially Valimaki. Last game
anyway.

I think he couldn't keep Zadorov out much longer though and the neginning of the home stand is a good enough time to do it. maybe he figures Valimaki might be more susceptible to the "first game back" bug.
