Probably a bit of both, Kylington is definitely playing up in the lineup due to Hanifan's absence. However his decent play while paired with Tanev seems to be deserving of another look, which is one of the few positives so far this camp.

Happy for Kylington. Given his toolset - and especially this year where the Flames are short on defencemen with his strengths - I am glad that he is getting a good look here. I honestly thought that he had been written-off almost completely.

Hope he continues to do well. He has to show Sutter that he can be consistently good defensively before he can get a spot, and so far so good. At this point he is an obvious placeholder for Hanifin, but he definitely is showing that he can be a part of the solution as well.

Kylington controls his own destiny.

Play well....meaning skating that puck out hard if no one up ice is open for a pass.

His speed and mobility has to be utilized because guys like Stone and Gud don't have that speed .

I'd like to see more of Stone though...he's a great 6 7th.

If the spots are truly earned, Kylington should currently be in line for the opening night roster.

We'll see if he maintains this level of play over the remaining games. Given that he's seeing time next to Tanev though I would think that Sutter is seeing what we are.

Also shows the coach isn't dead set on just dressing vets and bruisers.

It's a huge relief and hopefully ends up a great story for Killington

Kylington's potential perfectly matches the Flames' biggest need - an offensive, puck-moving dfefenseman. So yeah, it would be awesome if he can take his game to the next level and earn a spot on the roster.

I have a really big bet that Mangiapane will score more points this year than Brock. Loser will pay for an expensive night out and wear opposing team jersey the entire night (pictures will be taken)
Hopefully it won't be to awkward for my friend going to eat fine dining wearing a Tkachuk Jersey

I actually don't mind it too much, but I prefer Valimaki in instead of Stone. Just because I don't see Stone getting better, whereas Valimaki might/should.

I think it all depends on how much Valimaki cleans up his game. Had his first decent outing last game, will need to follow that up. As it stands, Stone probably has more trust from Sutter than Valimaki, even though Valimaki is higher on the depth chart for most of us.

Honestly there are just too nhl d-men. Kylington forcing his way in complicates that a little more.

I'm happy to have that problem though.

Valimaki has to go through waivers so if the Flames want to make that mistake, it'll be the cherry on top of the off-season.

I think Kylington actually likes playing the right side (I remember hearing that anyway). So if so it shouldn't be a problem to have both Valamaki and Kylington playing

If OK is shilling it to start the year, you can include Valimaki in a deal for Eichel.

I know fans like to look at the day 1 lineup as some kind of absolution, but I think the most likely scenario is that we have 4 regulars:

Hanifin
Tanev
Andersson, and
Zadorov

and 4 guys that will be rotated into the lineup:

Valimaki
Kylington
Stone, and
Gudbranson

Valimaki may be able to solidify himself into the first group, but so far he hasn't

Still more legitimate NHLers than the Flames sent to Abbotsford for the game there, so better preparation to play against at least.
