Sutter told us as much on day one. Neither guy in games until the end of the preseason.

Is Seattle's defence even that much better? I concede that it is probably better, but it sure does not rise to the level of surprise and sadness expressed by mdubz.

I would think the Flames would do something to honour Gio in a regular season game when they come to Calgary though. I can't see much fuss being made tonight.
 |
Well he could have played last night and not tonight...seems a little odd

I assume this is recovery related. Both Monahan and Hanifin had surgery in the off-season, right? But on the other hand, I also wonder if some of this has to do with roles: do Hanifin and Monahan require more in-practice attention because Sutter has singled them out as the on-ice leaders? Sutter sure does love his #1 centre and #1 defenseman.

Tanev/Hanifin are better than anything they have...people are just going overboard.

100% the Flames allow less goals than Seattle this season

This folks is the worst team in the league by far. Francis should have been fired right after the expansion draft.

They would be lucky to win 20 games this year.

Good to see Kylington get an opportunity here. He's not perfect but he's better than a 7-8 guy, especially on this team.
As for Gio's return, hopefully it's low key and they do the full-meal-deal montage when they come back in December. Having a welcome back ovation with the Dome only half-full for a meaningless preseason game is lame.

That's a relief. The already ineffective Monahan should make it until game 10 before he becomes even less effective due to another mystifying injury now.

I don‘t know that it’s better, even without Hanifin in. It only looks better because of Gio and I’m not convinced he’s going to be that good.

Depth is important in this league and Seattle basically got to choose the best depth pieces from every team. Still think Francis did a terrible job of his actual selections and coaching hire but it would be foolish to count them out when they have such a deep roster of good-ish players

That's exactly what I was thinking. Very sad.

Flames have more depth and higher end forwards, and a better starting goalie.

But it's kind of atrocious that the Flames D - which used to be our hallmark - has become so thin. Thank god for Tanev! (who would have thought that a year ago?)

Its already being called a terrible pickup and people want him in the bottom pair. A guy who has dominated NHL playoff series for a top team apparently isn't good enough for the Flames top four.
