Mangiapaine-Backlund-Coleman looks like a great shutdown line on paper that will also add some offense.

Bit of a side track but I think Monahan is the odd duck in the line up.
With so many questions and uncertainties about Monahan going into the season he does certainly stand out.

Monahan has had many injuries, but for the most part, they have been unrelated. Kind of reminds me of what Backlund went through early in his career. I think that aside from the beating he takes night after night in front of the net, and his (perhaps unwise) tendency to play through injuries, Monahan is just as likely to have a healthy season as any other player. That's why I'm picking him as one of the Flames I'm expecting to have bounce back seasons this year.

Just the same Mangiapaine-Lindholm-Coleman would be an elite checking line.

That said, we know Gaudreau - Monahan - Tkachuk doesn't work

Three left hand shots, two of them natural left wingers, all on the same line, especially with a centre playing through an injury, does not look like a recipe for success.

No Derek Ryan is going to hurt the bottom 6 more than any of us think.

Really shocked that the Flames couldn't match or beat what Edmonton offered.

I still believe (perhaps foolishly) that Phillips can make the team in a Paul Byron type role.

Lucic Backlund Philips or
Lucic Lewis Philips

or perhaps as the 13th forward (along w Ritchie)

I think they weren't projecting him to be a top 9 forward this season due to his age and decline last season (and especially if Lindholm continues at C), and they were looking for someone bigger to centre the 4th line.

I also think Treliving didn’t want to tie up that salary so early in the offseason, with the potential for other moves still out there. He might have matched it now, but he couldn’t then.

I D G A F what they do with current roster.
Just please don't tell me at the end of the year that you thought it would be " EASIER "!!! And fold like a cheap tent because of your delusional expectations!!!

I'm still fuming that this was what they thought last year but couldn't beat Ottawa EVERY single time FFS.

These guys have to listen to Sutter, Muller, Huska and Maclean and stop this coach killing BS.

It's painful hearing and watching this clusterF on the ice get dominated by clearly inferior teams.....Jesus tappdancing Christ its getting old.

Let's be in shape, be prepared to go through the wall every game without worrying how bloody you get.

Darryl spelled it out ....I don't like losing. I'm back because this team has unfinished MFing business.

Let's Go!!!!! Wooooooooooooo

Johnny-Lindy-Mangi
Chucky-Mony-Dube

Those are my top 2 lines. After the WC that Mangi had, I don't see how you don't give him a shot on the top line. If Chucky & Mony want to get back to the top line, they have to earn their way there.

Can also see Lewis, Dube, and Monahan(if he stays) get PK time. Actually thought Monahan looked good killing penalties last season.

Using more bodies on the PK will mean shorter shifts for everyone and a more likely chance that everyone is fresher and healthier.

Agreed because no one on this roster outside of Tanev has more HEART than Eat bread.

Monahan , Gaudreau, Tkachuk , Lindholm , Markstrom, Hanifin and Tanev have to be better than the other teams’ top players, the great majority of the time, this season.

That has not been the case for a season and a half.

That will be paramount for anyone who expects team success this season.

Don’t really give a rats ass who Darryl decides on as far as the lines go...

I like your Mangiapane reasoning.

Think I’d swap Coleman for Dube though.
