The 2021 is considered the weakest draft in the past five and would drop to seventh if you include the 2022 and 2023. This draft is more like 2012 and not likely to generate a lot of top end talent. I think Coronato is in our top three, close with Zary and Pelletier, but keep the strength of draft in mind

Zary for me here, though I won't lie - I went to choose Coronato simply to trigger Lanny, but I kept missing him as I scanned the list, but gave up and picked the guy that I thought was first anyway.

The young man who scores goals better than anyone else in the system gets my vote.
He might actually be the best goal scorer in the entire organization besides Monahan, Johnny, Tkachuk or Lindholm.

I had a dream last night that the Flames opened this season v. Vancouver, and dropped a 7-1 decision with Vlader and Werner splitting time in goal.

Jakob Pelletier for me. Closer to become NHLer, all around skills, hard working competitive players who I hope become top 2 line reliable player for this team.

Went with Pelletier as I thought he was considerably more dynamic and simply just a step ahead of Zary at the WJC last year despite being only a handful of months older. I dont know enough about Coranato yet but he will be no father down than 3rd here for me.

Well, that is just not true:
· Zary was the Flames top draft pick in 2020, and he placed second behind Valimaki in the prospect poll.
· In 2019 the Flames picked Pelletier first in the draft, and he placed fourth.
· In 2018 the Flames didn't pick until the fourth round when they selected Posposil. He placed 20th in his first prospect ranking.
· In 2017 the Flames first pick was Valimaki, and he placed fourth.
· In 2016 the Flames selected Matthew Tkachuk sixth overall, and he placed first.
· In 2015 the Flames drafted Rasmus Andersson in the second round with their first pick, and he was subsequently ranked 13th.
· In 2014 the Flames drafted Sam Bennett with their highest ever pick at #4, and he placed second behind Gaudreau who had been in the organisation for three years by that point.
· In 2013 Sean Monahan was drafted by Calgary sixth overall, and he placed first in the prospect poll.
That is two out of eight of the Flames newest top picks who won the prospect poll, and both of these players were top-ten draft selections. This is not something that happens "every year"; it is not something that "almost always" happens. It has happened TWICE in eight samples.
So, maybe give the community a little credit? If Coronato wins the prospect poll this year, it is probably because he is legitimately thought to be the Flames top prospect, and not because he is the "new kid on the block."

I went with Coronato because apparently he was the best goal scorer in the draft, but Pelletier and Zary are close. Pelletier had a much better World Juniors than Zary, but Zary proved he could produce in the AHL (at least a covid version of the AHL which is weaker than normal).

The shiny new thing aspect does play a role sometimes. Last year I went with Pelletier over Zary though. This year I did go with the shiny new Coronato though. He seems like a higher pedigree and was drafted higher after all.
It’s still a toss up between Pelletier and Zary to me after that. Both seem to be progressing well, but Zary looks pretty good I the few AHL games he had. Kind of made up for the ordinary World Juniors before that. Pelletier has looked consistently pretty good but might have a lower ceiling than the other two. Just my opinion of course.

Last draft picks to play even one NHL game is from 2017 draft ... Valimaki with 73 and Adam Ruzicka with 3
That is a lot of prospect back pressure. It should be about to blow.

Reasons to be excited about all 3 prospects currently leading the polling. Went with Pelletier because of his motor and compete, but Zary's skill and AHL showing, and Coronato's pure scoring ability can't be ignored.

Valimaki had already graduated (24 NHL games) ... so Zary was the best prospect that year.
Mackey would have some collateral as the top prospect this year as he is currently the #6 d-man in the organization

There are some tantalizing sleepers in this group:
Vlander, Chechelev, Werner, Heinemen, Poirier, Kinnvall, Francis, Stromgren and Kuznetsov all look like they could be sneaky good.

I voted Vlader as he’s the only one who has shown he can perform at the NHL level.

I've got Zary after Coronoto.

Exactly. This combined with our top 3 skaters look good. I could be good with selling off our team and drafting high the next 2 years.
But I'm sure the management and coach want nothing to do with it.
