Dougie will thrive in an environment where nobody cares who he is.

Subbans expiring next summer so not a big deal.

Massive signing bonuses to prevent effectiveness of a buyout and lockout protection.

Oooh....that is an awful contract for New Jersey.

Dougie has basically hung a tire swing from the GM's testicles with that one.

Why? Why would you do this?

Good for Hamilton! This is his career and he positioned himself well, but as a GM you'd have to be an idiot to sign this.

Hell of a lot better than the Jones deal, and they didn't have to give up 2 firsts, so...

I once lived in the same condo building as Dougie Hamilton. Got on the elevator and I said "good morning". He said "how's it going?". I didn't reply. Awkwardness ensued.

So another team who entered and exited a rebuild since the Flames finished theirs, and who will (probably) be a more competitive team than the Flames

I don't think so. He will be good through to the end. Especially in New Jersey.

He is a good player, but that is an awful contract structure for a team.

Did he have them over a barrel or something?

On paper, he's one of the top defenseman in the NHL. He's 6'6". 230 lbs. Puts up 50+ points, often leads the NHL in goals by defenseman. Good corsi stats. Has good top end spend. 28 years old.

The eye test was different. Below average breakout pass ability. Shot the puck in cases when a pass would've been a higher percentage play. Takes far too many penalties as a result of being out of position. Really slow acceleration. Doesn't go into corners or take a hit to make a play.

New Jersey does not have the greatest D and forward core. Hamilton played with Slavin in Carolina and their top 6 forwards. In Calgary, he played with Gio and Calgary's top 6. Both of which are significantly better than New Jerseys'.

I wish him the best, and that is an outstanding contract for him financially, but New Jersey is going to regret it sooner than later.
Agree, I don't care what the stat sheet says, he's a bad defenceman who took a lot of lazy hooking penalties after getting skated around. He's pretty lazy and should be a dominant force out there in his own end.

But..... those GWG I guess....

So dougie and subban on the same team?

What is the over/under on dougie getting traded to his next team? 2.3 seasons?
