Yes and it would be a success if he makes the NHL
All I am saying is go for the Adam Fox , TJ Brodie, Johnny Gaudreau instead

If only the Flames would target players like these in later rounds!

You complain the Flames don't draft big players, they take a big player and you still have issues with it. Good stuff!

So you get NHL players (including bottom sixers) by drafting them. Or, if you trade for them, you trade players you drafted (or draft picks). Or if you sign them as UFAs they take the place of players you drafted.
Not everything is an issue.

"Cole Huckins is an example of a player type that I like: big forwards (6’3”) that can skate and play a skilled game. While I do love me a small zippy winger that can rip a hard shot, guys like Colton Dach and Samu Salminen this year, and Brandon Coe last year, are examples of big forwards who I find interesting. Huckins is a center/winger who played mostly wing this season in the QMJHL, where he had 32 points in 33 games for Acadie-Bathurst. He had a much stronger start to the year for point production and faded a bit down the stretch, which is one of the reasons I wound up dropping his profile and writing about Dach instead. His strengths are with playmaking and transitions, in part thanks to his above average skating which you love to see from a bigger player. He’s someone I’d be interested in if the Leafs trade down and get an extra pick in the late second/early third round. From Scott Wheeler, who has him ranked 66th overall:
Huckins is a versatile forward who has had success playing both centre and wing in the QMJHL through two seasons. He’s an aggressive forechecker who extends through his pushes to elongate his stride and push up ice. Moving forward, he’s an above-average skater for his size, though, that can break down when he has to change directions or stop and start. He finishes his checks, stays on top of opposing players to apply pressure and force board battles, and then excels at taking possession from the wall and making a play, primarily as a passer."

If it worked every time, they would just go higher then our picks. Sometimes it does. It's kind of a version of a home run pick I guess.

Seems to be some disagreement on whether this kid can skate or not. I love the rest of the package, though, so I'm quite excited about the net-front presence that he brings.

It sounds like this kid has some upside to his game, actually. Some people hear "bottom 6 player" and they think "lack of skill", but I think championships are won because of these types of players that you draft - and not overpay in the UFA market - after they already won a championship and suddenly get noticed for being important players.
He is big, decent skater, good hands, and a good amount of skill. Let's see how he grows his game. Flames have been desperately trying to increase their size a bit (something that I have also thought of as a weakness) for years. Some of these kids are going to pay off, and Huckins sure sounds like a good gamble for doing just that.

Do you honestly see this as a fan reaction to a draft pick?
Hammer the kid, hammer two existing players, hammer the GM for wasting a pick, come back and hammer the two existing players again.
Like seriously does that seem normal to you? I guess it probably does.
But what happened to you as a child to suck all the rainbows and puppy dog tails out of your brain?

Had we taken Jankowski 77th overall that would have been a steal…so that actually makes this good.

Huckins played mostly wing this year, and was labelled as a goal-scorer. Last year however, he played mostly C and his passing ability was compared to that of Joe Thornton.

I am as much of a high ceiling person myself, but sometimes you don't know a guy's ceiling.
Was Zdeno Chara ever projected to become Zdeno Chara? Was Josh Andersson meant to become dangerous goalscorer Josh Andersson? When you think of guys like Tomas Holmstrom or Patric Hornqvist do you think of guys who were projected to play on the top lines of elite teams? Zach Hyman is another example of a guy who was pretty much a lock to be a bottom six guy... until suddenly he wasn't. How about Milan Lucic, when he was drafted did the Bruins realistically expect 2014 Lucic or 2020 Lucic? I suspect the latter.

If Treliving knew that one of the prospects was going to be one of those players, do you really think he wouldn’t have drafted them?

How the hell did you miss the snark there? I even put "/snark" in the post. I figured as soon as people saw Stanstead College they would go to Jankowski and lose their ####. Too subtle for you?
