Correct and then try to flip those picks to get better picks or just whatever not suck at whatever they were doing. Were they even trying? We will see tomorrow but so far so bad for Seattle.

Asking a second, third, or fourth not to take some of the players they took would have been equally ridiculous. Few teams had such a steep drop-off from the best to second-best exposed player as there was from Giordano to Kylington.

Seattle made no side deals

Well, we really have no idea what they did and did not do.
Maybe the teams were bluffing and felt they would take, for example,Tarasenko, Vorachek, Price etc.
Big names don’t win hockey games.
Now those teams are stuck with those cap hits.
St Louis likely wanted him gone, so they could chase some UFA’s.
Seattle may well have their choice of the premium UFA’s.
Most posters were highly critical of the job Vegas did too.

This whole ordeal has been terrible. All the leaks today, not announcing trades till the next day? Leave it to the the NHL to muck this all up.

How were the leaks the NHL's fault? As has been mentioned, when the players were notified of course family and friends find out and leaks are inevitable.

It’s important to pick someone to blame and do so as quickly and relentlessly as possible.

It's weird to me that the trade freeze wasn't lifted as soon as the Kraken made their picks.

No side deals isn't that big a deal. They have cap space to make a lot of deals before free agency.
They can go after Landeskog, Schwartz, Dougie, Martinez, and whomever else.
Having space for an Andrew Ladd becomes 2 2nds and a 3rd. Tampa needs to dump players. Philly wants to shed JVR/Voracek. I'm sure there are lots of other fat contracts they can accept for compensation.
They can build a contender, or take on bad contracts and build for the future. Seattle will be ok.

They could have asked for a second, third, or fourth not to take some of the players that they didn't take. They could have asked for something not to take some of the big-name guys even if they didn't plan on taking them. They still would have ended up with the players that they chose but would have possibly had additional assets.

Francis didn't make a significant player-for-player trade in four years as Hurricanes GM. Why change now?

I was up until yesterday. I finally came to conclusion a declining Gio is no longer worth his cap hit and since this team has every intention of being in the playoff race, better just to let him go.

Personally, a 3rd would have been the MOST I'd be willing to give up. But even then I think the better play would have been to take the cap room and improve elsewhere.
I think a lot of opinions will vary on that. Don't think many would have given what Seattle was (reportedly) asking.

Yes, but clearly the leaks weren't the NHL's fault. They were Treliving's fault.
One lynch mob at a time, please! The lineup to lynch Bettman will form starting tomorrow at noon ET.
