Well, it was the CTRC, not the satellite radio providers, that kept it out of Canada.

Finally got a signal from the radio and I'm very impressed. I love having all these hockey games on, hearing different commentating from around the league is great. The Music itself is also awsome with soo many options. Anybody listned to the comedy chanells yet on XM? how are they?

There's some good classic MLB games on at night, there's a Yanks/Twins game on right now with Pettite on the mound.

I like some of the stuff that is on the comedy channels. Guys like Lewis Black, Jerry Seinfeld, and Dennis Miller crack me up, and they are on quite regularly.

Just got one for my dad for Christmas - lives 100Km South East of Edmonton, works great, for 3 days didnt have 1 disruption. The only issue was when changing channels there was a slight signal delay.

As for in Calgary, I work downtown and while I didnt have any Satellite signal, I did get a Terrestrial signal from a repeater.

I am definately thinking about buying one. Also as per the NHL it looks like its on both until 2007, when it then moves exclusively to XM.

Thanks. London Drugs seemed to have the best Sirirus selection in the city.

Has anyone else ran into extreme difficulty finding any sirius stuff. Pretty much everystore that sells satelitte Radio is out of sirius stuff. I had to go to 3 differnt London Drugs on shipment day. Yet, XM stuff is everywhere. On boxing Day futureshop had 2 different boom boxes for XM and only two home sets for Sirius.

Just in case anybody is thinking of getting one or the other, I'm about to drop Sirius and pick up XM. Why, you may ask?

- Fricken NHL Roulette. Last night driving home from Winnipeg I had luckily printed out the schedule, or else I would have never guessed that the games were on "Trucker talk" and the Christian talk channels. Also, the Flames game on the 26th wasn't on.

- Sound quality. It's mono sound on the music. I even went and got a cassette adapter and it still sounds craptacular. Aparently XM is a bit better. This wasn't a deal breaker on it's own, but with everything else it is.

- Play lists. They are quite limited. I'd be better off buying an MP3 player and putting 200 songs into it; I'd hear the same songs with less frequency.

- Comedy channels. Sirius has two; "Raw Dog" and another. Raw Dog is "uncensored" which I thought sounded good; but all they play is raunch stuff. As funny as it may be, after I while I get tired of hearing about the comedians' bodily functions. The other channel is rated "G", so it seems like they are always playing stuff like Abbott & Costello.

XM, here I come.

Got XM a couple days ago (Roady XT - small screen, but the small form factor allows it to fit in the truck easily, and only $70 after MIR...$40 for me because I got an open box). Plus the home kit...mainly for the remote.

The FM modulation is seemless, and you don't lose any sound quality or have distortion (maybe you would notice it if you had amps and subs in your car trying to play this, but I just have an 8 speaker Bose stereo in the car and notice very little degredation)

Thanks to a US relative, I get the full service.

No complaints at all...listened to the Flames (Fan 960 feed) game while driving to a holday function (about 10 seconds behind normal AM radio Fan 960), and, listened to the post game also on the drive home.

Does either one have NFL broadcast rights in Canada?

Sirius has the NFL rights. That was one of the original reasons I went with them.

Upon reflection; it's pretty rare that I'm not in front of a TV on a Sunday.

I'm thinking about getting satelite radio. Now that everyone has had 6 more months to play with their new Christmas toys, any more feedback?

Either XM or siruis will do.

Thanks!

I bought two xm roady receivers at new years. One for me one for my fiance. After 6 months I would rate it a 6 out of 10. I really did like having access to the NHL games but the actual number of channels were quite disappointing. Pretty much 3-6 channels per genre. I drive much more than my fiance and use it much more. She never uses it so I am going to definately cancel hers. I will most likely keep mine for another 6 months to see if they add anything new. I wish they would broadcast regular Canadian stations so that when I am in another province I can listen to Calgary stations. Thats what I would really like.

I got my XM about a month ago, I love it, I haven't listen to terestral <sp?> since. Now I desided to go with a "grey" US sub. Theres a few more stations plus you get all of the canadian channels anyway. Plus with a US sub you get free XM online, which is great for me since I have my panasonic HU in my jeep set up to recieve the XM and not a removable unit. I looked into both XM and Siruis, I liked the channels better on XM plus it has NHL and Opie and Anthony(much funnier then Stern IMO).

I'm going to buy a Sirius unit pretty soon.......probably within the next couple of weeks.

Howard Stern is a big factor.......either you love him or hate him. Personally, I think his show is friggen' hilarious. Also, great 80's stations. I don't care about the NHL games....I'll be at home by the time most games have started, and I'll watch them on TV.

Sirius, here I come!

I'm sure everybody tells you all the good stuff about Sirius, so here's the things I don't like.

- Not true stereo sound. Yep fricken mono.
- FM modulation is a PITA. You have to find a frequency that isn't being used; including by Shaw's FM radio service otherwise you get sound bleeding over. If your stereo doesn't have a cassette adapter or audio input, I would try it before you buy. Especially depending on what music you listen to. My neighbour listens to music that goes thump-thump and he finds his Sirius sounds like shingaurd.
- Play lists. It's getting better, but I used to tell if I was making good time into work depending on where I was when "Mony Mony" came on. Same thing applies for comedy; lots of repeats.
- Overall sound quality. Keep in mind it is approx 96 kpbs stream rate, and myself I don't bother with MP3's that are lower than 256 kbps.

Big thing is don't get sucked into the "It's digital, and digital=good" mentallity. Through the 80's we all became accustomed to hearing that CD's were so good because they were digital. Well, along came the late 90's and all of a sudden we were able to have compression.

All that said, I ain't giving up my Sirius.

It's all about content, take a loot at the personalities and what shows each have, choose whatever interests you more.

Myself, I am a huge Stern fan. I wouldn't take an XM unit if someone paid me.
