Remember when they traded Ryan Smyth because they were $100k apart on a contract?

I do too, I think their crest is lame though given what they could have done. They so should have went with a big actual Kraken on there.

Bet Seattle could have offered a penny more and Larsson still would’ve gone.

Same situation as Engelland. It went from picking up a disposable pick from Calgary to getting Engelland who was a top-4 guy for them

Up until they got Larsson Edmonton was getting hurt the least by the expansion draft of anyone.

The only difference was that Engelland was not likely coming back to the Flames, where Larsson appeared to be okay with Edmonton.

Market opens up to other teams making their ability to sign the player in question.

Another bidder can screw up any transaction.

I'd say take the quality, use the window, and avoid grabbing guys you don't want at all. Still get a player from Edmonton, but now he's better than Tyler Benson.

Last night I thought Gio was as good as gone. After these signings I’m not convinced. How much money are they going to want to put into D?

Oiler buddy of mine went from Fuc the Kraken to Fuc Larsson in the blink of an eye. Glorious. Holland has work to do. LOL.

Still don't understand why they didn't get keith to waive his NMC so they could have protected and signed Larrson. Huge step back.

Larson was going back to the Oil for 3.9 and Seattle offers slightly more and they get him. Who is to say if another team who loses a Dman tonight would come with a 5x5 deal?
Player agents aren't stupid. They have a pretty good idea what the market is going to look like and who has interest. Rarely are there surprise teams for players and contracts. These guys get paid to know the market, to have a really good idea what the market will bear, and most of them are really good at it. Larsson's agent would know who showed interest and what the potential contracts would look like. It's how players get signed minutes after the free agent period opens. So I still don't understand why you waste a pick on a player you know you can get in a week? Seems like poor asset management.

Larsson was really good this past season. It's a great signing for Seattle.

Like someone already said, signing a player of this level is way better than taking some crappy AHL player.

I would actually prefer them over paying to keep Barrie. Around 7 or 8 AAV. Nurse will get closer to 10AAV next year, and they can play the pairing 35 minutes a night.

How do they negotiate with Larsson if he still hasn’t been officially selected?

Isn’t he still an Oiler?

They are re-engaging Barrie now that Larrson is gone.
