Yes. I don't see Backlund as a leader type at all. He is also one of the long term guys this team has found little success around. I see Backlund as a guy we should be trying to move, not give the C to.

Has a Darryl Sutter coached team ever gone without a captain?
Sutter isn't as old school in everything he does, or he wouldn't have won 2 Cups, but I'd tend to think having a team captain is something he would insist on.

I don't think anyone has established themselves as captain of this team yet. I think the closest would be Milan Lucic but it seems weird to put the C on someone whose contract the Flames would dump in an instant if they could

This could be part of the culture change. I don't know if Lucic for a year is worth it and he'll already be seen as a leader anyway. Possible shuffle around the As, giving one to Mangiapane and Hanifin. Question would be who takes it after that. Backlund could be longer term before Mang.

Is there a chance we can add an actual poll? Thank you to whichever mod takes the time.

This is hard to guess on without being in the room. As a fan, I say give it to Backlund. I know Giordano was basically the unanimous choice in the locker room back in 2013, and I'd be very curious to know if that applies to Backlund as well. I think who ends up with the C will say a lot about where the team thinks they are organizationally.

I’m surprised he’s not getting much love, but I think it’s Lindholm.

After the exit interview it's Lucic for me, he doesn't piss around but by all indications is loved in the room.

No captain is a cop out answer, even if it's the most likely.
Who gets the cup first if we win?

Iggy. It doesn't matter if he is retired, Iggy gets it first.

Lucic would be my #1 choice.
Tkachuk as the #2 choice and hopefully he calls out all the idiots that told him to tone down his game and emotion last year.
Lindholm would be my #3 choice.
Definitely not Backlund or Monahan. Both probably shouldn't even have an A.

Backlund? No. Monahan? No.
Lucic? No. Love him, but he’s an overpaid 4th line player who will be around 2 more years at max.
Tkachuk: Captain
Mangiapane: Alternate
Tanev: Alternate
If we aren’t naming Tkachuk the Captain, and the organization doesn’t feel like he’s Captain material, then this team really does have an identity issue.

I think no captain for this year is the way to go. See if anyone earns that spot so you don't give it to the wrong guy. I don't see any clear cut player at this point.

I’d rather see them roll without one for a while unless someone truly ends up leading the pack out of the gate.

Andrew Mangiapane.
He’s our best 5 on 5 player and leads by example. No days off, young, gets it done on the ice.
Not like we have a rich tradition of winning with the elder statesmen on this club.

Lucic is the obvious choice for me but this is a great point.
