I don’t mind RFA compensation being high if GMs would be more level headed on UFA deals.

Heiskanen is a great young player, but this is not a 'steal of a deal' considering it includes 4 RFA years. Deserved, for sure, but fair, IMO.

What I like about this deal is that it sets a bar for Hughes, and Van can't really afford to give him a deal like this right now.

Someone said it earlier. Makar probably gets a little more and Hughes probably a little less. Hughes didn’t have a great year at all.

Plus, based on what happened to them last year, Hughes' good defensive metrics as a rookie appear to have been largely Tanev-driven. It's not even clear if he's going to be a real #1 D at this point as opposed to a high scoring PP quarterback.

You'd think about the same as Heiskanen. But that's going to be a big problem for them, because they're already paying Trouba 8M AAV. Having that much money into two d-men signed long term, while also having the highest-paid winger in the league, is tough. Then you have to think about the fact that you have a couple of high draft picks who are (you hope) going to be the type of players who also require big contracts.

So maybe Fox gets a bridge deal and they try to move Trouba before said bridge deal expires.
