I was debating between Wallstedt and McTavish. But after #88 winning the Conn Smythe this year, I chose the goalie

Sillinger is my vote. How do I not pick the guy who wears a Flames jersey on the ODR?
Edit: If anyone can please embed the image from this article it would be awesome.

Ok here’s my draft breakdown based on my extensive amateur scouting.
Wallstedt sounds too much like Wallstreet. Buncha crooks, not picking him.
McTavish? Seriously? Oilers stink all over that. Don’t care if he’s not related to Craig.
Lysell. Isn’t that the villain from BladeRunner? I don’t want no Android producing proto Jeff Bezos weirdo on my team.
Sillinger. Like that famous bank robber from the 1930s?
Chaz. His first name is chaz. Pass.
Ahtu Raty (pronounced Artoo Deetoo). I only want him if we also get see threepio in the 2nd round.
Lambos. I prefer ferraris.
Coronato. Sounds Italian maybe. They gonna whoop England in the euro finals and I like a winning pedigree. We have a winner.

Isak Rosen.
With the 12th pick, grab the first #1 RW the team has had since Iginla.

I voted for Lambos.
Not because I have any actual knowledge of these prospects or because I'm making an educated decision, no.
It's so I can roll out this gif as much as possible.

It should be one of sillinger or wallstedt imo. Both have long pedigrees (didn't come out of nowhere this season...) and a history of outcompeting their peers.
- lucius has profound skating issues that I struggle to reconcile.
- lysell has very limited offensive upside
- Cossa is intriguing but ultimately very raw still imo
- I think most of the top d men will be gone by our pick. I'm nervous about edvinsson too.
- mctavish has made a living physically dominating his young peers. Might have to reinvent to find success at next level.
- don't mind svechkov but think we can trade back and get him.
There's a chance someone like lambos or Stankovenmakes it to our 2nd pick with the crapshoot this is, so wouldn't use the first pick on them.
Edit: forgot coronato, who I think is fine but Sillinger is just better in every way except shooting left lol

With Lysell , the SHL is theoretically the best possible league for his offensive skill set: extra ice to use his speed and less physicality to the advantage of his small stature. Yet he produced very little. That is worrisome.

I bet the Flames aren't picking at 12. But if the do, I'll pick the kid with the Western Canada connection.

Great post, I agree with most of it.
But I do have two reservations:
-I don't think Sillinger is better than Coronato in every way. In fact, if you look at the Scouching reports, Coronto is quite a bit better in most of the advanced metrics that are presented.
-Lysell only had 3 points in 26 games, but apparently he didn't play much more than 5 minutes a night. And he produced a ton in the U18. Still, I get where you're coming from. I don't like projecting production where there isn't any. That's risky.

I just saw a mock on the Athletic and went with McTavish for this poll because he went 6 in the mock. I really know nothing about this draft

Personally, I'm still undecided between Sillinger and Coronato.
And I'm a lot lower on Mason McTavish, Carson Lambos, and Aatu Raty than a lot of you seem to be.
McTavish really didn't have very good production. He has one of the lower NHLes among those projected to go in the first round. I question his upside.
Lambos is okay, but I think Olen Zellweger is much better (yet he's projected to go later). I also question the upside of Lambos.
Player's with Aatu Raty's regression historically almost never work out. It's an uphill battle for him at this point. There's a chance he turns out, but Sillinger and Coronato have upside with as much risk.

I think you (we) should launch another after you graduate a first choice. Would give us the CP "list" just like the team has a list.

Yup good idea. And really at this stage I think we can call this vote done and move to the second round.

This is who I want the Flames to take with the second round pick.

Well the last year's 12 OA Anton Lundell is making indications that his D+2 will be in the NHL with the Panthers.
Reading the article from a Flames POV it is likely that the Panthers will make him their #2C and move Bennett to the 3rd line on the wing
The 2019 12 OA Matthew Brody 6-2 194 lb LW finished his D+2 putting up Gaudreau like sophomore numbers at Johnny's old alma mater and finishing the year with 18 pts in 14 games in the AHL. Not too much of a reach to see him on the Wild this coming year
The 2018 12 OA Noah Dobson 6-4 198 RD was in the NHL in D+2 and a regular solid #5 on the NYI in D+3 He has 80 NHL games plus 20 playoff games
The 2017 12 OA was Martin Necas solid top-6 forward on the Canes
2016 Michael McLeod with 20 pts in 85 NHL games with the Devils played 52 out of 56 games with NJD last season and is 22 so still might make it
2015 Denis Gurianov Dallas top-6 with Dallas
2014 Brendan Perlini Arizona Chicago Detroit 239 games 46 goals 76 pts appears to be done playing in Swiss league 2020-21
2013 Max Domi Phoenix top-6 72pts in 2018-19
2012 Mikhail Grigorenko Buf
2011 Ryan Murphy RD 5-11 198 175 NHL games 43 pts never an NHL regular over his
So out of the Last 10 #12 OA they all look to play 100 NHL games
Necas, Dobson, Domi, Gurianov turned into important players. Lundell and Brody look to be AAA prospects . McLeod is a 22 year old regular with upside, Grigorenko was bottom-6 regular with the bad Avalanche teams. Perlini was a bottom-6 forward Ryan Murphy was a disappointment with a lot of AHL call ups
4 winners 3 still maybe winners, and 3 disappointments.
This pick is vital for the Flames to get right with a high probability of success.

Grigorenko is an example of a "dropper" - as he was generally thought to be quite talented and go higher in that draft. At the time, many thought it was a steal by Buffalo.
It wasn't.
I was big on Ryan Murphy. Thought he was going to be an elite offensive dman.
Oops
