I think Panarin is close, in the 6-7 range, simply because he has excelled on each team he's gone to, which points to him being a catalyst.

I know it’s a Flames forum so I really shouldn’t be surprised, but there is no reality in which Connor McDavid isn’t the best player in the world. None. Zero. I know we’ve all been conditioned to nitpick his game, and I agree that Crosby in his prime was a better player, but as it stands today there is nobody even close to him. MacKinnon included.

I think there’s a clear top three and after that it’s debatable. But McDavid not at #1 is just a laughable take at this point. He is easily my least favourite player in the league but not admitting he’s the best player in the game is something I won’t do.

The really overrated guy on the Oilers is Draisaitl. Dude is not even close to being in the same realm as those guys.

Frankly, calling McDavid #1 is absurd.

Sure, he’s the best offensive talent. However he’s mediocre at best defensively, gives no leadership, and his give a crap meter has never gone over about a 3/10.

If I have to pick one player to win one playoff game, McDavid isn’t even on the list of considerations.

During Ovechkin's best seasons he sucked defensively too. He, like Yzerman before him, was also called poor leader - until he wasn't. But that never stopped people from putting him #1 or #2 behind Sid.

McDavid will no doubt be voted the best player not just by the media but the players themselves, again, this year. I would hardly call anyone putting him #1 absurd.

Re Crosby: He currently has 1325 points in 1039 games (imagine if he hadnt missed so much time) He currently sits at 34th all time. If he gets 100 more points he would rise to 17th. How many more years/points do you think he has in him??
