All their (possible) hard work in practice means they get premium ice time to try to get another contract in the league. The Flames will bring in another crew of PTOs for their role next year. The system works.

The results don't back it up.

Winning teams graduate prospects. Not just blue chippers but all sorts of prospects. They put prospects in a position to succeed. They give them meaningful minutes in meaningful games.

You can talk about earning it all you want but at some point it just becomes talk and obstinacy.

I think one would trust Sutter when it comes to winning culture and winning teams. Based on his results.

As much as Ritchie didn’t fit in where he was slotted, you can’t question his effort (or standing up for teammates). And Nordstrom is a guy who I like in everything he does, but he just can’t score.

Phillips turned 23 on Apr. 6.

2021-22 will be his age-23 season. Most of this past year, he was 22.

Both guys can play on my team any day...on the 4th line though

Its funny people around here love 2 goal 4th liners from other teams who do the dirty work but hate our own because the top six doesn't do their jobs.

You can argue Simon and the other scrubs haven't earned anything, but they could have been the ones working hard in practice and that's why Sutter is letting him play.

Could be that the "prospects" just aren't pushing it hard enough in practice. Sure Nesterov sucks, but if he's pushing hard in practice and being a pro, while others aren't, that's enough reason for Sutter to play him. Same with Ritchie.

Easy for us to say who should and shouldn't play when we aren't in that locker room or in practice.

We know this is a bad room and bad culture. I'm going to give Darryl leeway here as an experienced coach who has won it all before.

You don't build a winning culture by just saying you want a winning culture, it has to be developed.

Loubardias interviewed Darryl before the game and Darryl spoke about entitlement amongst the younger players.

Darryl said they expect more ice time rather than earning more ice time.
