I know you don't think Matthew Phillips will be anything special, but he's a good hockey player who has earned some games. He'd be worth watching, at the very least. Same with Ruzicka and Mackey.

The "legit head coach" has done nothing to improve the team or their style of play. It is the exact same style and system as Ward had them playing. Not a helluva lot has changed. They are just as bad under Sutter as they were under Ward.

It was time to play the youth several games ago. I think we can all be proud of how the team climbed from 6th last in point % to 10th last in point %. Here's to them surging all the way to their traditional ~15th pick range, spinning tires in the offseason, and doing it all over again next year.

I have watched very little of Rucizka.
I had one concern based on limited viewing. I do not know in any way if I should be concerned
How is his speed?

Mike Smith is a first class ######. Hate him. His inevitable collapse is coming soon.

Oh he is such an arrogant *****. How dare anybody touch him when he is in the crease or within 20 feet of it. Don’t they know he is untouchable? Whoever is playing them in the playoffs should just run him. He will lose his focus.

The issue, as has been pointed out countless times by Sutter is pace and conditioning. Flames win one, lose one is pretty much that...go hard one game...no gas for the next one.....rest...good for the third game....crap for the fourth....
These guys looked like their legs were made of wood in the first period. They CAN play this system...they just are too bagged to do so. And too slow-thinking.

I don't even know what can be done. So little hope for any tangible improvement.

Well, this isn't true. Their team defence has improved substantially. The team lacks the horses up front, but the only reason Geoff Ward had any run of success this season was Markstrom running super hot for a while.
Anyway, he has a three year contract and I don't suspect the owners are firing another coach. So yeah, he'll be back unless he decides this team has no chance of winning. Which he might.

It is not fantastic. I think he would be better suited as a winger in the NHL because of it — he has issues separating on breakouts.

If Sutter had 82 the Flames would make the playoffs even with this roster. Get him a better roster.
They are allowing next to nothing...need a couple scorers

Although I was happy Sutter was brought in over Ward(horrible choice) to begin with) I firmly believe he was brought in merely to save the season. The Flames are in a tough spot now due to bringing in Darryl. They don't have the team for Sutter style hockey. Not one game breaker on the team and zero elite/first line talent on the farm.
However, there is no way Sutter is removed now, clearly for optics and the situation in its entirety. The only way he is not here next year is if he realizes he made a bad choice in choosing the Flames to come back to and says, to hell with it. I'd rather farm.

Ya Darryl was brought in to save the season and to appease season ticket holders.
