IMO if Dube is in the rotating group of guys that can come in and out of the lineup, we should trade him before his value drops. There was a point we could've gotten something in return for Jankowski and replaced him with some waiver fodder.

That's kinda where I am at too. New baby Brain-fart Backlund could use a couple of games where the heat is off a bit because his last few games haven't been the greatest.

Let's not act like players such as Dube and Valimaki aren't getting their chances this season. They have played tons of games and will play many more. Stone is not taking away development time from Valimaki in the least. Of all the thing sgoing wrong this season, young players getting an occasional scratch isn't one of them.
To anyone who suggests there is a double standard between say a Gaudreau and a Dube, well this is professional sports. Results matter.

Are you saying you want Valimaki and Dube traded...?
This type of rotation should have always been on the table when Ward was the coach. But he had no balls to do it.
From the d you have Gio, Valimaki, Nesterov, Kylington, and now Stone. You have a dopey game you get benched.
From the forwards you have Dube, Bennett, Backlund, Levio, Ritchie, Nordstrom, Lucic, Robinson, Simon and Rinaldo. You have a dopey game you get benched.

Yup, the guy got an opportunity to play and played well. I can't imagine why people are shocked that he stays in for now. Lord knows he'll have an off game and will be back out in favor of Valimaki again, but for now, he's earned another game.

I'm not on the trade Dube wagon, but we need the organization to get a better handle on what they have in their own players. Players like Jankowski and Colborne had value at one point, but eventually left for nothing. It's complicated because player performance isn't consistent or entirely predictable, but we could use a couple more instances of selling high on a player, a la Sven.

And more to the point: Gaudreau responded well to criticism levied at him by Sutter and played quite well last game (for the most part). Dube did not respond that well, and he made some really big errors that were unforced. An yes, taking him out over Gaudreau is the easier thing to do, but young players have time in the pressbox all the time. It's not unheard of.
Gaudreau is a vet and one of the top 2 or 3 players on the team, so the only thing putting him in the pressbox does is alienate him by intentionally singling him out. You hope that by pressing his buttons to compete harder he does it on his own. Looks like it worked a little last game...we'll see if it continues or not.

I would rather see Dube in the top 6 but if he's gonna be used interchangeably with borderline NHLers and grinders, we're not getting the most out of him.

Relax, Flames aren't trading Dube, I'm sure he's a big part of the plan moving forward.
He's NOT a Jankowski

If Stone is in shape and has been keeping up in the AHL, no loss in putting him back in. He looked good coming back. If the young D were doing their jobs consistently, this would've never happened.

Through his first 102 games, Dube has 14 goals and 37 points. Janko through the same period had 21 goals and 35 points.
Dube is younger than Janko was at that point but I don't a grand canyon of difference between the two at that point in their career. Dube far from untouchable IMO.

Sitting Valimaki and Dube IS part of their development.
As long as it doesn't turn into a long-term replacement, it's all about teching them to be better while you still can.
Although I'm not a huge fan of how they are managing Kylington. I think he's been at least as good as both Nesterov and Valimaki and deserves to be part of a more frequent rotation.

Stone managed to get the big shot on target, too.

If 90% of your offense is generated from along the boards or shots from the point (like the flames seem to be right now) then having a guy with a cannon back there probably isn't the worst strategy.
I mean ideally you'd have guys going to the net and getting chances from the slot but since that isn't our MO these days may as well try Stone

Agreed.
And even if you do have a slot presence, the big point shot keeps the opposition forwards honest as they have to be out there to block it.
