Yup. He plays on PP1 with Phillips, Pettersen, Ruzicka, and Petrovic.

Have to admit, the Flames have some pretty good prospects down on the farm, despite Treliving trading far too many high draft picks. The Heat top 4 scoring forwards are all point per game or better, and they're all very young, and late round picks.
Ruzicka - 1.44 ppg - 21 - 4th round
Phillips - 1.44 ppg - 22 - 6th round
Pettersen - 1.00 ppg - 20 - 6th round
Pospisil - 1.00 ppg - 21 - 4th round
That's really impressive, hopefully they can keep that going.
Still waiting for 7th rounder little Z to get going though.

Zavvy will get going. He shows flashes.
I've liked Philp, too. Great one-timer on that guy.

What are your thoughts on the general NHL potential on the roster? Any chance of seeing one or two of the late round picks competing for a spot on the Flames next year? Who's surprised you the most?

Pospisil is a point-per-game. Damn. If this kid figures out how to produce offense consistently, watch out.

Plenty of ppg or higher players on the roster, which usually means there's NHL talent on the team.
Pettersen, Pospisil, Phillips and Ruzicka all look like they can fill the bottom half of a roster at the very least.
Defenseman seem to be doing ok. CJ Lerby and Mackey have produced, and Petrovic is somehow ppg as well.
I only got to watch one full game, but none of these guys seem to be airtight defenders, though team defense appears to be a strength. Outside of the first two games the Heat have given up next to nothing from the opposition.

8 consecutive sounds impressive.
Has their quality of competition in Canada decreased from Stockton?

Far too many seems a little overstated. Treliving has traded 2 first round picks (Hamilton and Hamonic) and 6 seconds. But he also acquired 5 seconds over his term. So it's 2 firsts and a second in total, and I'd argue the Hamilton trade was fair value.
If you're including thirds, he traded one for Smith and one for Gustaffson, but he just pocketed a couple at the last draft by moving down to get Zary, and he picked up one for Neal (hah).

Not really the point of my post.
Just impressed that so many 4th rounders or later are looking like probable future NHLers. I'm not sure of the numbers, but I imagine a very large percentage of 20-22 year olds who put up ppg or better numbers in the AHL go on to become NHLers. Especially these guys who aren't benefiting from being on lines with veteran AHL ringers. They are the ones stirring the drink so to speak.

It's too bad Wolf is back to Jr. I hope Zags gets more time in going forward, versus Sparks.

Yeah for sure. He had a rough 1st game but looked like he belonged after that.

I'd agree with your far too many comment though. Treliving inherited a rebuilding team and he should have been accumulating those early picks, not running a deficit. It's a discussion for another day though.
I hope some of these late round picks emerge into NHLers. It's definitely a difficult year for evaluation given the limited competition. Phillips needs to start getting some NHL looks if Flames are serious about him. He turns 23 in 3 weeks.

And is expansion eligible. Though probably would be a surprise pick.

That’s a good point. It would be a surprise but they’ll want some prospect types too. They have to take quite a bit of salary in the draft so really would depend on what else they do.
They will want to pick some guys making the minimum.

I might be inclined to protect Phillips over Backlund.

Which D is getting most ice on PP?
If it is Petrovic...why is that?
He is 29 year old, with a career season high of 2O points in the AHL...and not a whole lot in the NHL.
Why aren’t the younger guys getting more PP time. It’s a development league.

Lerby is getting a lot of PP time, too. But Petrovic has been the elder statesman on PP1.
