Didn’t think Ward could get any worse with his line combinations. I was wrong. 2 centers out with injury and he benches a center ( Bennett) for 3rd period . Lol

This team is playing like way less than the sum of its parts.
I think we can all agree the goaltending is just fine, and that the defence - although needing some time to adjust to Gio's decline and some new personnel - is very solid. So the answer needs to be found in adjustments to the forward group and/or the coaching.
The team also looks like it's in a slump - lots of guys forcing plays and a general lack of confidence in the offensive zone.
More entertaining than the 4-set against the Canucks, but pretty lame for a BOA.
Glad Rittich at least played well. Hope it gives him some confidence.

I just don't get it. It was a better than Wednesday but come on. You're down 2-1 to your biggest rivals and you come up with an effort like that in the final period. Absolutely pathetic.

It is time for major changes in this organization. A totally listless effort, led by no one.

When as a fan you go "Meh we lost" there's a problem especially vs the coilers.

This is why this team is guaranteed to have ####ty starts in ever game because they're over cautious and reactive. You have to play perfect in order to have a chance to win, whereas the opposing team that's being more assertive will be able to create a mistake they can capitalize on eventually.
It's like the saying in football: prevent defense prevents you from winning.
You gotta be willing to take initiative and be assertive to dictate the play in your favour. Flames were all about for the majority of the 18-19 season. The overreaction has caused them to become their own worst enemies.
They may have not been as good as 2nd in the NHL good, but they shouldn't have dropped off that much. It's not like luck was carrying the team. They just executed extremely well.

I don’t disagree that they are too passive. But I also think that other teams have figured out the Flames’ offensive players like Gaudreau. It’s like how we always say “you should be able to defend McDavid - he does the same thing all the time”. It’s become pretty easy to defend Monahan and Gaudreau - stop Gaudreau near the blue line or funnel him, and make sure he doesn’t get the puck across the ice.
There’s a couple players that have taken a step back, too - Tkachuk and Rasmus.
And coaching is not great at all.

I'm getting that weird Greg Gilbert vibe where things started unravelling for him leading him to go mental on Savard. This Ward/Bennett thing needs to get cleaned up ASAP.

Could you imagine your teams' head coach and general manager whining to the media about the Flames not having a culture problem, and then putting on that boring-a** shi*show in the BoA?
No need to imagine, because that's what just happened.

Absolutely right. Poorly-constructed with lots of coin tosses on fringe players. Time for Treliving to go. Coaching staff terrible.

This is what makes me angriest. Not that we lost to the Oilers, but that we lost to the Oilers and it doesn’t bother me.
But screw it. I’m going to care as much as the players care, which evidently is very little.

Tre and Ward are the worst GM/Coach tandem in the league.
They should BOTH be fired.

Trade Bennett, but not because he played poorly, but because he should be saved from Geoff Ward's tyranny.

Look at them trade Bennett for peanuts and THEN after a few games fire Ward. It's Savard situation all over again. What a effing coaching by Ward.

The Flames are missing Monahan due to injury and our coach prefers to give Byron Froese and Josh Leivo 7 shifts to Bennett's 0 in the 3rd period.
We heard after the loss to Dallas that the Flames players were apparently extra disappointed to lose the series because they believed they had cost Geoff Ward the coaching job, as they really liked him. Maybe that should have been the first sign that Geoff Ward is not the right coach for this team?! Why are we giving this team a coach that makes it fun and easy for them but doesn't seem to make them better?
And I've been generally fine with Ward up until recently. I'm also fully aware given the bizarre circumstances of this season that a coaching change is extremely unlikely.
But jesus ####, Gerard Gallant and Bruce Boudreau are both looking like no-brainers at this point.
