I know that's a thing that can happen, but how often does it actually happen? Like, once a year in Calgary? It's like worrying about having your tires stolen and using lock nuts. Not something I'm going to worry about.

More than you know. A big chunk of house break-ins are a result of a car being burglarized for the garage door opener, and then using documents in the vehicle to find the house. It's actually quite common.

I will tell you this, once you have been burglarized, or had your identity stolen like happened to me a couple years back, you never feel the same about things, and wished you had taken every possible precaution.

I'm curious to know what percentage of people carry a physical garage opener in their vehicle vs using built in homelink buttons. I know that personally I haven't had a remote in the vehicle in about 20 years as homelink as replaced the need for a remote which can be stolen.

Maybe I just drive peasant mobiles, but our 2014 Impreza doesn't have them, and my 2002 S-10 definitely doesn't have them. But then maybe driving peasant mobiles prevents people from thinking I have anything worth stealing. So....win?

This summer I sold my Tacoma privately, took my plate to Kelowna and bought a V90 cross country. Put the plate on, and drove it home. The following monday I went to registries and registered the car.
I had insurance for the new car of course, and this is what insurance told me to do. Was super easy and painless.
