Worked as a garbage man in the summers during university.

Nothing better than tossing bags and hanging on to the back of the truck with the wind blowing on a hot summer day.

Summer job while in university.

Pipeline Gauger, which meant reading meters and taking samples of crude oil from battery sites on a daily basis to track how much oil was being received into out mainline and that is was of acceptable quality. Job was in northern Alberta and we drove about 700km/day on our route. But it was pretty chill and you got lot's of alone time/solitude if that was your thing. Money was great (> $11/hour in the day when minimum wage was about $5/hr) and our schedule was 8 days on/6 days off. Company truck that you kept while on shift and they didn't care what else you used it for. And double time for working stat holidays (time and a half if the stat fell on your day off and you did not work it). Only downside was you were in the middle of nowhere and too far from civilization to get FM radio reception so we were stuck with a few rural AM channels. Trade-io, farm reports (hog and cattle prices, canola futures etc.) were highlights of our day.

The day after I turned 18 I moved to Lake Louise for the winter and worked for the hill. Started out just cleaning the lodge and working the cash register, but where it got amazing was when I became a night cleaner. My crew did the main lodge and we'd work from 5pm - 9:30. That was my whole shift five days a week, which meant I could snowboard seven days a week all day long. Obviously didn't make much money, but free snowboarding more than made up for it.

Tuesday was the big party night there, so my manager would leave the bar unlocked that night and along with the two guys I worked with, we'd do all our pre-drinking at the bar just pouring ourselves fancy drinks.

No stress whatsoever - rent was taken off my cheque and there's even a little grocery store in the staff accommodation you shop at and whatever you buy was taken off your cheque, too. Non-stop partying and snowboarding.

Plus, all the customers were super nice. They're there on vacation so everybody is in a good mood and having fun. Staff, guests...everyone. Such a great vibe the whole time.

I worked as a Zamboni driver for four years through university. That was the best job I've ever had, probably ever will have. Outside of the perks, like getting free ice time for shinny or cases of beers from the beer league guys, it was a really interesting job. I learned a lot about ice plant rooms, basic carpentry and plumbing skills, time management, etc.

I'll probably go back to driving a Zamboni after I retire.

Convenience store worker was the best teen job ever. It was literally a stream of friends and acquaintances coming in all night, hanging out and messing around. We had so much fun just screwing around in general, it was obscene. We would have the "Bread Bowl" every Friday night, where we would have a game of football in the parking lot using a loaf of bread. Unlimited slurpees and each shift was one 6 hour smoke break. Good times.

That job was really easy with a good crew of ppl on the team. It allowed me to live a very fun lifestyle for 7 months.

Not necessarily the best job, but definitely a fun one - I worked in the IMAX theatre in Eau Claire many years ago. Introduced the shows each hour (got to practice public speaking), hung out with friends who worked there, got unlimited free arcade games between shows, and constantly stuck my face under the queso cheese machine in the concession.

Now I'm in my dream job (design and construction), but those were the days for sure.

Lol, this is gonna sound kinda weird since I posted on the other thread that my worst job was working at the Quality Inn at the corner of McKnight and Edmonton Trail, but before I was moved onto the evening manager there, I used to work at the shady liquor store that's on the same property (right beside that Enterprise). That was probably my most fun job, despite the shadiness. The guys I worked with were awesome to hang out with.

I still remember the 04 cup run. We had to take turns on game days working, and none of us wanted to because we wanted to watch the game. So one of the guys had an old 27 inch CRT tv that we lugged into there, and I remember watching a lot of the San Jose and Tampa Bay series on that thing. Before and during intermissions, you'd get a huge surge of customers, but during the game, it'd be pretty dead. Some of us may or may not have also partook in a bit of drinking while we watched ha ha. Fun times for sure.

Best job, as much as I can hate it some days, my current job is pretty incredible and has led to some awesome experiences. I'm an apparel buyer for a major retailer, so I get to see product lines from major brands well in advance of them hitting the market and decide what we're going to sell in all of our stores nationally.

Prior to COVID, I was going down to SoCal for a week every few months, staying on the water in Huntington or Newport Beach, looking at clothes for a couple hours a day, and eating incredible food at restaurants I could never afford to eat at on my own.

Can't remember the last time I actually bought clothing/footwear for myself, since a quick email basically gets me anything I want.

Craziest job was definitely while backpacking in Oz after graduating from HS. I worked on commercial long line tune boat for one (very long) trip out to sea. Think "The Perfect Storm" except with no storm, beautiful warm weather, and crystal blue water. We were at sea without seeing land for 22 days. Just a few highlights were hauling in a 900lb swordfish, multiple encounters with MASSIVE sharks, and holding an Albatross that had decided to eat the bait by the head while we took a hood out of it's beak.

There seems to be an ongoing theme of people loving whatever job they had around the time they were in their late teens/early 20s. My guess is that is probably related more to the lifestyle than the actual job. When you're working to earn beer money and you meet up with your friends at every day at 5:30 to goof around, most jobs probably seem pretty great.

....sorry for the debby downer. I'll add to this trend. Best job...Working at Telus mobility as a sales rep during university. Basically just goofing off with other staff and getting paid $20+/hr (that was more money back then) to do it.

Although my current job of being self-employed, now that I'm over the initial financial hump/stress, is pretty great.
