I think this signing is more a depth move. If Rittich and or Markstrom injuries occur, I think they want to have a little bit of experience.

Would this not be the answer of who to expose in the expansion draft?

1 year deal means that he doesn't meet the criteria for the expansion exposure. Expect to see one more goalie signed some time this year.

Parsons and Zagidulin already meet expansion requirements, they only need to be RFAs

This has got to be the only logical explanation. Treliving said it himself a year ago: By not re-signing Smith, Rittich was given a signal and a chance to become a starter. Rittich wasn't ready. Now, with Markstrom's 6-yr contract, what chances does Rittich have to become a starter in Calgary? So, very likely, Rittich is upset, unhappy and want's out to a team that needs a starter.
What is really head-scratching, Domingue is not good even as a back-up goalie. Didn't he have the worst stats in the NHL last season?

Fixed.
Hard to have much hope in Parsons when all he does is get injured it seems. I hope he proves me wrong but he hasn't even shown the ability to play a full season of AHL hockey.
Domingue is good depth and can be an NHL backup if needed.

Anyone not named Markstrom, Wolf or Chechelev will be exposed IIRC. Domingue will be a UFA, same as Rittich

Probably has more to do with Parsons than Rittich.
Rittich is career .908. Domingue is career .904, albeit with a LOT of AHL time. Seems obvious Domingue would be significant downgrade.

Parsons and Rittich are already the answer to that.

Parsons is injured and they will have a condensed AHL sked w/ some 3 in 3s and want 3 goalies there.

OK that's good news. I was under the impression that there were some minimum games played criteria as well.

According to CapFriendly Zag is exempt.

UFA's count for expansion exposure. Remember Vegas took pending UFA Engelland from the Flames in the last expansion draft.

Maybe we actually are trading Rittich.

My mistake on Zag, forgot the 2 years thing. Thanks for the correction.
I know UFAs are exposed, but they don't count towards the expansion requirements, which is why I singled them out as UFAs.

It is not for exposure though. I believe they have to have atleast one goalie signed to a contract that is exposed. Didn’t flames sign Tom McCollum for this exact reason last time?

For goalies you just need an RFA, we signed McCollum because we didn't have anyone that was a 3+ year pro to expose; everyone was a 1-2 year pro or a UFA
