The Oilers being terrible has become boring. For the last 2-3 off-seasons I've been rooting for them to improve, it makes the rivalry much more fun IMO
I like this signing for them

Not out for a full year, and its unlikely that they can find a top pairing blueliner for that kind of money.

Sad to say but this is a decent deal for the Oilers. Turris confirms that he is in fact, no good though.

Just want to repeat how bad Kyle Turris was last season...like worse than Neal/Lucic bad.

I love this signing as a flames fan. It means the oilers are playing another defensively poor forward in their top 9 consistently. This is about the last thing they need.

I feel like Turris really dislikes Maloney and Treliving.

Something about Turris always rubbed me the wrong way- something weaselly about his play. This confirms it.

My guess is Turris was the backup option on most team's lists, and as such didn't get many offers early. So just pulled the trigger before the cap dollars dry up.

Excellent signing by Edmonton, unfortunately. Good cheap pick up.

Yeah, it will only help the Oilers by filling their bottom of the roster with players making around 1M. Helps elevate the Kassian contract. Blue line down is still a mess though.

I've never understood the love for Turris. At all.
What am I missing?

Problem is though that with RNH playing wing, and with the defensive zone not being McDavid or Draisaitls strong suit, they needed a defensive center.
Defense isn't exactly Turris strong suit and he was outright bad last season, like one of the worst centers in the league defensively bad.
Here are the Oilers top 3 centers when it comes to defensive zone heat maps now, they really are going to need to get a good goalie...
That's a lot of red right in front of their own net...yikes.

I agree with this. No move the Oilers have made today jumps out as a bad deal but if you look who is in vs out I think the players out make more sense. They can score goals on the PP but need to be better 5 on 5.
IMO Turris in Sheahan out hurts them. Sheahan is more likely to accept a 3rd/4th line role with no pp time. He was on their first PK unit and was a good faceoff guy.
Ennis back doesn't hurt and Puljuravi could be big for them. But I believe they will miss Benning a lot as well. He isn't spectacular, but he would accept is role as 2nd/3rd pairing dman. With Klefbom out and Benning gone they have a ton of pressure for Broberg and Bouchard to come in and play well. IMO this could hurt those 2 young dmens develpoment.
Also I thought the Nurse days were potentially done with the Oilers. He now is going to need to step up and be there #1 guy. Larsson is a UFA too and he has not been good the last couple years. I just don't know what they are doing with their d...it is a mess.
Signing Turris and Ennis also makes me question what they have in Benson or any other AHL forwards. Clearly they have no confidence that they will get something out of anyone from the AHL other than Bouchard.

He probably agreed to 2 years with the assurance that he would be exposed in the expansion draft
