Rittich can play 30 games and keep the new #1 fresh.

Kiprusoff would’ve killed for a backup as good as Rittich.

If they offered that and want Markstrom, does that mean big save dave would have been cast off?

Explain?

Is it merely the cap hit?

Rittich has had flashes of brilliance and moments of pure garbage.

The thing is we have been hearing about him dealing with an injury whenever he was playing like garbage.

No, they need Rittich to play 30 games.

Having a #1 doesn’t mean playing a guy 65-70 times in the regular season anymore. They have nothing left for the post season.

He was supposedly 100 percent recovered for the playoffs, I haven't heard anything to contradict that.

He meant if we signed Talbot and still pursued Markstrom.

Oh we’re going to judge him on playing less than a period in a game he got thrown into after not playing a minute of competitive hockey for like 5-6 months?

Happy for Talbot, he deserved a good deal and some security.

I don't know if this has been said but I'm surprised Talbot will be making more than Khudobin. Seems like Khudobin left money on the table.

Good for him.

Very glad it isn't us paying it.

Would MUCH rather have Markstrom for 6 years than Talbot for 3.

Talbot was a good pickup last season and in an ideal world would be a high quality backup goaltender. He is positionally sound and makes saves you would expect but he's not overly spectacular and confidence inspiring at times. Seems like a great guy though and I wish him all the best in Minneapolis.

Happy for Talbot. Liked the player. Just wasn't a fit with the Flames going forward.

It's not the cap hit, although cheaper would be nice. Yes Rittich has shown he is capable of high level play.

But a back up also needs to be ready always. I believe the reports of Rittich practising poorly in the bubble may have really disappointed Flames management. And he was totally unprepared to come into the last game.

I think a veteran would be good for this club which as we know, tends to be rather fragile.
