I'd hate to see a bad one then.
Completely agree with what you're saying, but, actually, he was 2nd overall, behind none other than Edmonton Oiler #1 overall, Nail Yakupov.

Ha ha, stupid Oilers.

Neither. Money for Dubois and Gavrikov

What is Dubois contract going to be 7 x 8 years ? Might be tough to sign hall with 7m cap space after Dubois contract but can see a trade with Calgary after we sign Hall. Gaudreau for Korpisalo, borjkstrand and a 1st.

CBJ probably have an internal budget for this year too.

Starting to think they could be a legit landing spot for Johnny though if the Flames land Hall.

It's clear Jarmo gives zero ####s and won't be afraid to trade for just two guaranteed years of Johnny Hockey. He's a risk taker no doubt.
Johnny doesn't have the balls to block shots, so he'll never play for Torts!

Columbus has a lot of really good young talent - I could see it being a tempting place for Hall to sign. I think there are better options, but they may be able to offer the biggest deal.

With that being said, I do think that they will go after Hall, but I also see them more as the team that is going to be taking good players who are cap casualties. For a team that signs one of Hall, Pietrangelo, Markstrom, etc.. For instance, though I still think that the Flames will keep Gaudreau even if they sign Hall, if they do not, Columbus will be able to take the entire contract without sending any cap back - lowering the overall price of the acquisition.

It is a smart move by them, but not guaranteed to pay out. Feaster was openly declaring Calgary a cap casualty team back in the day, but I guess those buyouts ruined the market. The market is hot for unloading decent players at under-valued prices right now, and they are trying to take advantage of it I think.

My guess? Calgary signs Hall, Markstrom, re-signs Brodie, re-signs Mangiapane, signs Pietrangelo - all at discounted prices - forms a super team - and then trades Lucic and Ryan for a package of picks and prospects, as Columbus obviously is helping Calgary to win because they their city also starts with a C, but they hate Chicago.

Yay Columbus!

I bet Nyquist would be a good wingman for Backlund...

CBJ only has 2 guys signed beyond 2022 right now: Nyquist ('23) and Atkinson ('25)

Dubois, Bjorkstrand, and Gavrikov are the only really notable RFAs likely to be extended longterm (though they have a bunch of others). Werenski is arb eligible RFA in '22.

Kinda crazy.

I would not mind Atkinson. He is a Rw but undersized isn't he?

No-brainer for the Devils. Second-pairing defenceman on a fair contract and all it took was a fifth? As sureLoss and others noted, you can likely swing him for at least a second at the trade deadline if you are in a seller's position, and you'll need him in the playoffs if that's the spot you find yourself in.

What a strange trade with no guarantee of hitting on one of the big UFAs.
