Sirloin is garbage, only fit for feeding your dogs.

Sirloin is great when you grind it up and make hamburgers.

You can't be serious. It's one of the more flavourful cuts, and tender enough.

I disagree. Hamburger made with the right meats and fat content can be just as delicious, if not more so, than any meat. Especially hamburgers cooked on a flat top with a nice crust.

I find it just falls into a terrible value proposition. Not nearly as good as Rib-eye, tenderloin, or striploin but 75% of the cost.

Isn't a new york cut strip loin still technically a sirloin? This is all so confusing.
Anyone who would rather eat a bbq'd hamburger over an NY is out of their minds.
The average hamburger that somebody grills up at their house is dog meat compared to a steak.
If you are talking a top of the line hamburger like a Shake Shack burger or something like that then it's much closer. But I have yet to go to a bbq and have anybody hook me up with a premium burger. It's always some frozen pattie from the grocery aisle or lean ground beef, pressed together. I'm not gonna complain, but I'd rather hit a fast food joint for a decent burger.

In a poll like this shouldn't the comparison be between an idealized version of both foods? I would argue that the average steak at a typical bbq is just as much dog meat as the average burger. For example, my mom can't bbq at all so even the finest of steaks would be way over done and fit for the garbage.

Do you consider the top and bottom sirloin the same cut as well? I differentiate between bottom, top and strip and certainly price does. To me when someone generically uses the term sirloin they are referring to Top Sirloin.
Average hamburger to average steak, I probably take the burger. Any steak done over medium is not edible. And people tend to overcook everything on a bbq. The fat in a burger at least gives it a chance.

Lots of people in here are cooking and eating overdone, poor quality sirloins.

Anger at that but not "Plank Salmon" over lamb shank? Salmon? Easily the worst of the fish?

We're not talking about British cuts of meat here where sirloin also includes striploin. In Canada, a standard sirloin is a tough, dry cut that is typically inedible if cooked anything more than rare. Even when done rare, it has a weird rubber like texture and tastes like funky cow blood.
I have, mind you, had a fantastic sirloin once, but I was absolutely shocked and convinced the chef screwed up and gave me a striploin instead.

I don't know where you are getting your meats, but stop by Masters Meats and grab a sirloin from there. It is nothing like you describe. I like medium rare-medium, and it's fantastic.

Agreed, and that's the position I voted from (sirloin, btw).
Average for average, a crappy, over-cooked sirloin is just as inedible as a crappy, frozen patty-turned-cardboard-puck burger, so instead it's better to compare ideals. The advantage that your average burger has is that it can hide behind, or be compensated by toppings, condiments and even the bun... Unless you're some sort of heathen, a steak has nothing to hide behind.
I love me a great burger, but I love even more a great sirloin steak.

It's pretty much Trump and his hamberders over Obama and his stakes:

Nice try but those were McDick burgers and Flay was cooking up ribeye.
That would be like comparing a Flay Wagu burger to sirloin off a lunch truck.

You take the idealized version of anything and it starts to become a difficult choice. Instead, I look at the crappy version of it when it's close.
If I was offered a Big Mac or a $12.99 6oz sirloin steak from a pub in Forest Lawn, I'm taking the Big Mac all day, every day.
