Right now we are using a Napoleon Prestige 500 series and love it. Being made in Canada is important to me and we paid for it.
Having lived in NFLD previously I might suggest staying away from cast iron anything, even the "ceramic coated" ones. I had a Broil King BBQ when I was there and though the case did ok, however, I was replacing grills and other internals steady just from rust. The salt air is a challenge anywhere in the Maritimes.
I bought a Charbroil Professional "Trueinfrared" for about $450 that had handy, smaller removable Grates and "liner's" that were awesome and easy maintenance. However I see the newer ones are "coated". Mine had stainless grills. That thing was awesome, almost never any flare ups. I would still have it, however, my wife sold it when she gave me the Napoleon for my Birthday a couple years ago.

I bought a weber, couple years later my brother bought a no name brand bbq, it turned to rust in a couple years and my weber still looks great in that time. He learned his lesson and bought a napoleon (which is a fantastic bbq also).

I just think the cheap no name brand bbq's are a waste of money. The bottom of his grill rusted out and there was an open flame above his propane tank. Scary really. There is way more metal with a decent bbq.

I don't know if anyone can answer this here, but I've got a couple natural gas questions. One is can you buy a "splitter"? I have two appliances I want to run from one line. And two; can I use a 70-90,000 btu conversion kit with a 50,000 btu appliance?

1) Might depend on what you have existing, but if you have 1/2" outside already it should be no problem. My BBQ was on a 1/2" to 3/8" reducer, so I added a reducing 1/2" to 3/8" 3/8" tee for my fire table. Even if it's 3/8" but you don't use the BBQ and second appliance at the same time it probably wouldn't matter, but I'm not a gas fitter by any stretch.

2) Conversion kit will include the regulator, so in general they are usually specific to the appliance itself... If it's the same brand it might work, but I don't think its something you can generalize an answer to.

The best advice I can give for any bbq, smoker...outside cooking device is to buy a cover and use it. This is your number one solution for longevity.

As has been mentioned Most bbq's are you get what you pay for. Buy the best you can afford. Buy once cry once.

I have a decent BBQ and also purchased the big green mountain grill last year. I have only used my propane BBQ a few times since and have used the gmg likely 100 times. I am totally sold on pellet grills. I would like a good charcoal unit as well but I typically don't have the time to use one.
The pellet grills (traeger, gmg) are easy to use and produce amazing results. It is easy to turn cheap cuts into a meal that your friends will rave about. I liken the pellet grill to a wood fired oven more so than a smoker. While it does impart some smoke for short cooks it generally just improves the flavour profile. For long low and slow cooks like brisket the smoke ring and taste result is always a crowd pleasure.
If you like chicken the pellet grill is much easier to get good results than a gas grill that typically results in burnt outside and raw inside without surgical attention while cooking.

I am sold on the pellet grill and would advise anyone with one to experiment with different pellets until you find the one that you like the best. Everyone has their own preference for what the think is best.

I would also suggest a wifi model. I can put a large piece of meat in the gmg and monitor the grill and 2 separate meat temps while driving the tractor. I can adjust the temperature or turn it right off from anywhere. This works really well for me for seeding and harvest seasons.

It's still early, but is there somewhere better than another to purchase a BBQ?

Doesn't seem like there are any sales yet. Hopefully soon.

This seems like a silly derail side question, but are you opposed to charcoal? Gas/propane BBQ is convenient, but if you get something like a ceramic Kamado styled grill, it's in relatively the same price range, made mostly of ceramic which should help against the elements, improved flavour and also more versatile than a traditional BBQ. The main downside is that it takes extra time up front to start up the charcoal vs a gas BBQ is just flipping a few switches. You get get smaller versions for $300-600 and you might just want a chimney kit to speed up the charcoal starting.

I have no experience with these though. It just popped into my head as I was researching some of these on the side. Apparently, you can get some really damn tasty stuff from these and I am not opposed to slow cooks which is why this is something I am interested in experimenting with. From what I understand, quite a few people still get a traditional BBQ, but also love getting something else on the side for some added levels of BBQ awesome.

Honestly, I did think about this. However, I think the convenience of propane, the fact its what I'm used to, and the quick start time, cleaner/less messy aspect are still what I'm holding on to. That said, I wouldn't be opposed to picking up a charcoal BBQ down the road to experiment with.

Right now, it's the go with what you know.
