Talbot in the starter’s net for the #Flames this morning. And... Hamonic (upper body) skating with the team in bright yellow.

People want to hate him, fine. But it’s transparent as hell. He’s a great coach.

Huge game for Talbot. It could be win and you're in down the stretch.

I'm sure Rittich will be fine when he does go in -- just need the team to play well in front of him (which they haven't at home), and to get him some confidence.

This is a weird one for me. Rittich has the better career numbers against CBJ. But has been less than stellar of late. Talbot has been great lately, but has been poor coming off his best outings.

The team is typically poor in the first home game right off a long road trip. But they've been home for 3 days now.

The Flames have played up or down to their opponent. The opponent tonight is wounded but still making a decent showing of themselves overall.

So many wacky variables.

Also, re: Tortorella. I should hate him. He checks 2 major boxes. Coached Tampa in 04. Coached the rival Canucks too. Yet I have a hard time hating him as well. Always comes across very nice when interviewed outside hockey. Wouldn't want him coaching here though.

I think he’d be perfect here.

One thing is for sure, if he were here he wouldn't argue with the media.

Torts (or Sutter) against Eric would be worth the price of admission.

Eric: "You won 1-0, could you explain why your team didn't manage to get the insurance marker in the last 2 periods"

Torts: "The #### do you want from me Eric? We got the two points, Ritter got the shutout, Mony scores a game winner. Can you tell me what the #### you want me to say?"

Remember when Sutter was asked if the Kings would lose momentum because they lost a game in one series?

It is a big game for him in regards to having an opportunity to seize a starting job as I don't know if he will get another one. I realize the organization really wants Rittich to be the starter for the playoffs but if Talbot can maintain solid play and Rittich continue to struggle it could happen for him but he's going to have to make the most of starts like this.

I like Talbot an am happy he is starting tonight's game, but where is this myth about his pattern of "solid play" coming from?

Here are his numbers since the ASG:

28 Jan: 4GA OTL 0.882SP
1 Feb: 2GA L 0.905SP
6 Feb: 3GA L 0.914SP
13 Feb: 0GA W 1.000SP
15 Feb: 4GA L 0.692SP
17 Feb: 4GA W 0.867SP
21 Feb 4GA L 0.826SP
1 Mar: 0GA W 1.000SP

Talbot has been just okay. In my opinion, not perceptively much better than Rittich. It is good he is getting the start tonight and I hope he runs with it. But in the end neither of the Flames's goalie is making a particularly strong case to start in the playoffs right now. This is the month to make their mark.

Which Flames team gonna show up? Hopefully, it's the one that's gonna show up for a win.
