It's one thing to create a memorable theme. It's another to create a whole bunch of them and have them transition into each other, changing tone and in some cases time signature, depending on what's going on in the story at the time and who is interacting with who.
This is the most popular video on it and it only really uses one example, if you look on youtube you can find much more in-depth analyses. This is just about the Fellowship Theme, and that's one of over 100 different themes in the trilogy.

Yeah, no, RDJ isn't in the same stratosphere. Good performance I think, but nothing to that level.
Pirates is a pretty good comparable in the sense that I know the main theme off the top of my head and it's pretty widely recognizable but that's about it. There are some leitmotifs in the Marvel movies generally - which obviously there should be given the interweaving plots, groups, characters and recurring locations like Wakanda - but they're mostly just not very memorable. I couldn't hum, say, Thor's theme for you. The only reason I can recognize Black Panther music is because of cheesy afro-kitsch. They also don't lead into each other well. They're not adequately versatile. Frankly the most impactful piece of music in the whole thing is probably Rubber Man.
Then you watch Fellowship and listen to the Ring theme transition into the Shire theme transition into the Fellowship theme in various different keys depending on the mood that Shore wants to convey and your mind explodes. Seriously, just watch that movie and focus entirely on the musical themes. It's really cool.
Yeah I agree. Me and my buddies used to sit around playing nerdy games listening to LOTR soundtrack on repeat.
That said, just because it's not up to the Star Wars/LOTR standard doesn't mean it's not worthy of a 2020 nomination.
They did trim back the acting nominations it seems, so I can't really argue with the selections. It'd be nice to see him recognized some how (although his 100's of millions I'm sure comfort him just fine). I guess my gripe is I feel like the whole idea is written off from the get-go, because of the content. Similar to a comedian. I'd just like to see the Academy recognize some more diverse content (thematically - not to take away from their need to recognize more diversity culturally).
There is really just one obviously recognizable themes from the Marvel universe:

Can you still bet on the Oscars? Because betting on Parasite in the foreign language category seems like easy money.

we've seen the academy make many stupid picks over the years. I could see them making another.
I just like the Oscars for narrowing the field. Theres so many movies that I'll generally make an effort to see the ones that are nominated, but as for who wins? Couldnt care less.
I have learned to care less because, as you said, the Academy makes many stupid picks.

So far the highlight is seeing people online lose their #### about Shia disrespecting his costar With downs. Apparently not realizing they’re friends and Shia credited the guy for helping him straighten up his life.

Is this really a thing? I thought he was patient and tried to help him along.

Why is eminem on here? singing an 18 year old song?? just weird.
They had all these awesome older songs in this montage which was pretty stupid because the clips were only 5 seconds long and then they show a clip from 8 mile for like 30 seconds...
I just watched 8 Mile for the first time a month ago. not bad. 7/10

Was not expecting Eminem to be performing tonight.

Yeah that was super weird. Cool to see Em perform but it screams of the Academy trying to appeal to a younger audience. Not to mention he’s got a new album out.
I for sure thought they were gonna segue to a best song nominee performance.
So 1917 is winning. One Shot Movie is gonna be the buzz word.
The movie is clearly two shots. There's a time jump intentional cut half way through. Not sure why it's being hyped as one shot. I hope it doesn't win TBH.
