That's what I was thinking!

I didn't realize the guy is 27 though. Probably pretty much what you see is what you get at that point.

I mean he's not really going to replace the grindy, PKing garbage like a Sheahan, Archibald, or a Granlund.

And he doesn't score enough to replace the one way scoring garbage like Neal and Gagner.

So with there being not much chance of potential left, what's the point in making a claim on him?

I wouldn't be upset if the Oilers do it, as you never know which garbage could end up having chemistry with McDavid, but I don't see him as a guy likely to move the dial at all either.

Had high hopes Czarnik would blossom here. Be a late bloomer like Marchessault or something. Or at the very be something that could eventually earn the Flames an asset as opposed to being waiver wire fodder.

Guess not.

Sure. And if he does get claimed, we will still have guys like Dube and Mangiapane in our lineup producing at a better clip.

For Czarnik's sake, I hope he does get claimed. Because he's been surpassed here. To the point that his loss wouldn't affect us in the slightest.

Makes some sense to me, especially with Ray Edwards as a new assistant coach. Focus on the development of our own drafted players. Czarnik is 27 after all.

I think the Flames want to keep him, along with all the players they have. I believe they chose to put Czarnik on waivers because they think he is the least likely to be claimed. Although there is a good chance he does get claimed. His higher salary makes him less attractive to claim than Rieder.

Good guy to have in the system as you can move him into the lineup at any time. Perhaps they trade a player, or trade two roster players for one. That combined with an injury and he could be back in the lineup.

Frank Mahovlich won 6 cups.

Where does a small soft skilled player that doesn't score much fit in?

I will be shocked if he is claimed or if he ever plays in the NHL again.

If he does clear waivers on the way down to Stockton, and does well there, does he also become eligible to be claimed by other teams if/when the Flames decide to bring him back later in the season?

No. Re-entry waivers are no longer a thing.

That, and Czar is coming back from a high ankle sprain which I believe is a hard injury to come back from skating-wise and skating was one of his attributes. He needs ice time to get back up to speed.

I believe he will clear waivers. He'll get a chance to get his skating legs back, get some ice time, hopefully find his mojo, and then he can be recalled when needed.

Of, of course the Flames want to keep him. And I expect they will. But if he does get claimed, it's not going to hurt us any.

Probably won't be claimed but I think there's a good chance he plays for the Flames again this season

I think he clears and is traded, a team having the flexibility to move him up and down without adds value to him. I could see the Pens being interested and when they get healthy sending him down would only carry a cap hit of 175k
